Incorrect MOT Mileage

Well, just got a buyer for my Celica on Sunday, they loved the car and were about to purchase when they saw my MOT certs, bear in mind that my car has done 77k, the last MOT read 123k! All the certs from MOTs, service etc before that went steadily up, the service 3 months before said 70k, so I'd done a lot of motoring in 3 months apparently!

Obviously a mistake, so there I was looking like a crook who'd clocked the car, thankfully there was a gas analysis sheet with the MOT which did have the correct mileage on, so the buyer seemed to beleive me but still wouldn't buy with that as an issue - who could blame them?

So rang VOSA the next day, got a very unhelpful t**t who said nothing could be done, didn't sympathize with me whatsoever, when I said "great, so now all online car checks are going to register the car has been clocked when the next MOT gets done" his response was "oh those checks aren't very accurate anyway" - I don't bleedin care how accurate they are! People use them and they are going to now make people think my lovely Celica is a load of arse. I was told to get a new MOT and thats all that can be done, that fixes nothing.

So then I rang the regional testing station that VOSA gave me, they gave me the wrong regional station but I asked them what to do, they said ring garage, rang the garage who said bring it in so I did - garage tried to change it, couldn't, they took it to regional station, they couldn't either. According to VOSA and all the testing stations its too old (I was quoted 3 different timeframes - 7 days, 10 days and 1 month, so they obviously know nothing of what they are on about).

So now the garage are having to chase VOSA, they said that they can't give an estimate of time as VOSA aere very slow, and they don't hold out much hope of getting it changed.

End result, a test that is required by law has probably devalued my car, and made selling it quite a lot harder for me and anyway down the line and the people who should be able to sort it don't give a cr*p.

The motto of this is - check your MOT mileage after its been done, because beleive me you don't want to have to deal with VOSA and their ridiculous policies.

I had a problem when I got my MOT done. They put one the MOT that the car had done 132K miles and not KM's. Went back the following day and they gave me a new certificate. Always check the paperwork when it's issued.......;)

H.

I think you've hit the nail on the head: 123,000 kilometers = 76,428 miles

Is the car a grey import displaying KMs?

Good shout but I saw the problem when I was with my prospective buyer, I cant figure how they would make this mistake, but the mileage they put on is the same as the last 6 characters of my VIN, so they weren't making it out of thin air at least....its not an import either, UK car, which is a reason I'm annoyed as UK celiac's are worth more!

The garage tell me they can issue a cover note, but cant do much about the MOT so it will still come up as clocked on car checks.
