caliAl
As the title says, I’m looking for a decent wireless card for my Desktop PC. My Orange Live router is on the ground floor and my PC is on the 1st floor. I was looking at this: http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_networkcard_wg311t.php Any advise would be much appreciated. DamanC
Is your router 108 Mbps? if not, there is no point in buying a 108 Mbps card. Just get a cheapy 54 Mbps card. Anyone will do, just make sure you use windows to manage your networks rather than the software that will come with it.

Thorin
Who makes the Orange router? In my experience you're best off getting a wireless card/adapter from the same manufacturer.

The Live Box is made by Inventel. Don't think I've heard of them before

creative
I got this one plugged it in... fired it up and was online within minutes. (well via an unsecured network as I messed up my wep key the first time round! )
sdavies
Stay clear of Belkin - they're crap. I haven't tried the Belkin wireless PCI cards so I sadly cannot comment - vintage may be an issue? I have had some sh*t experience with D-Link and Linksys - Linksys being the worse of the two I played with, but again - that was some years ago so I cannot damn them to hell. I purchased a real cheap and nasty never heard of wireless router and wifi card for a friends business (from dabs.com) that wanted to do something on the real cheap (I can't even remember the name on the box as I had never heard of it but it was a steal) - and it worked perfectly and still works to this day lol.... (there is hope for XS power products yet hehehe). The Belkin N1 View router I have has been operating flawlessly since I have had it though (buttons for the display functions are irritatingly hard to press, but work fine). Cracking piece of kit so I cannot condemn the whole brand on that point. I also have a Belkin Bluetooth USB dongle that just works and has done for the last 3 years /shrug. My Mac Mini sits on top of a Belkin USB/Firewire router which has never failed me. You get good and bad with all I guess Google be thy friend when looking for stuff like this. There will always be people that had problems or know someone that had problems, but look beyond that - if you still see problems - then junk the idea. Never had any problems with Netgear stuff until recently when my netgear gigabit network card simply croaked - still love the brand as I have tons of other stuff by them that is pukka.
