Pete
ask me what voodoo the Mac uses for managing devices and I and 90% of the forum wouldnt be able to tell you. Bunch of numpties. They wont know how to use a Mac and will probably get frustrated when trying to work out what the problem is, let alone try to fix it. Frustrated using a Mac? It's a calming almost zen like experience compared to Windows. Look at the lovely icons, the happy smiling Mac face, it sits there and just does what you command... They don't break. Ok, a Hackingtosh might break if they release a certain update - but you just wait a few days before installing an update and leave the other lemmings to sort out the issues first. Actually this it the main complaint of Macs, they dumb down too much. The only ones we get in to fix are ones where the hard drives or PSUs have packed up. We get a few G3s in for IT recycling, only they don't make it that far as they're still perfectly usable. There's one in my kitchen now as an iTunes station and Internet point. The other issue is Geeks are faddy, if you find a Geek happy to help you today, chances are it'll be old news and boring tomorrow. That forum on InsanelyMac is amazing though. Pete
The core 'stuff' seems to be untouchable in everyday use. I copied and pasted a load of junk into an SSH session once be accident. I don't know what command it ran, but it didn't half make a mess.

Ric
I like my Macbook and iphone for general use, but the PC is for gaming, Mac will never produce a machine which is as good as a power PC for gaming Wish they would though

There far more consumers out there with Windows gaming machines.

Is that complete humour or are you hinting at something a little more tongue in cheek? Is Linux the "single" of the computer world?

Jake
Is that complete humour or are you hinting at something a little more tongue in cheek? Is Linux the "single" of the computer world? Just a joke really mate. I use Unix (AIX and Slowaris mainly) for a living but IMHO you really can't beat Windows for simple useability at home. I know it's not perfect but compared to the alternatives it's just so much less hassle. (and the sheer volume of stealable software is fantastic for those of us with no morals)

I've been given the impression Linux is similar in terms of adaptability - but will it have more lag?? I must say, it's feeling very comfy right now in Windoze world. Homer
Windows for me. I only use a computer for surfing the net, email (outlook), torrents and playing PC games. All work very well on Windows so just can't see the point of Linux or Mac for with only these needs (and I think I'm a pretty common type of computer user). For work I'd prefer something a little more reliable/stable, but most of the apps I use don't run on Linux...

Some tool at work was trying to tell me that PS3/XB360 have better gfx than any PC game. I can't play FPS or driving games on a console. The controls are all wrong. Benzsupra
Went from Windows on a PC to OSX on a Mac and i've never looked back. I hate all the problems Windows seems to encounter... Just my 2p's worth
imi
Following on from my thread about the differences between them, which do you prefer and why? I'm going into a profession that may well necessitate me moving platforms (out of my comfort zone ) and migrating to Mac. I like Windows, and have used Linux (at a novice level). I've not used a Mac for anything more than making prank calls to my shift-working mate after a beer or two What reasons do people cite for their choice of system and why should I move over to a Mac? For reference, I'm planning on going into a sort of print and publication role... Very intuitive OS and extremely impressive user interface. The best in the market to date by a mile. I am a windows user that has just recently started using OS X. Chalk and cheese as far as I am concerned. having said that, windows does support a lot more applications.....if you are a specialist that requires those types of apps, then you "may" struggle with the MAC. For everything else, it is the OS to have.

Thing is, Pete put me onto VM Fusion and other VM machines, which unlike the traditional virtual machines actually integrates the application on to your desktop which makes general useability very nice.
