Guest phil_n
i bought my supra with a slipping clutch thinking it wouldnt be a problem to fix. but its a n/a 6 speed sz-r and the clutches are impossible to find. ive ordered the clutch from a 6 speed turbo which i have been told will fit. mines a v161 box. but the gearbox seems to hesitate between 1st and 2nd and sometimes makes a klunk when doing so.i dont know if this is just because it needs a clutch or something else is wrong ive tried not to drive it until it was sorted but sometimes this has not been possible. of course it may have also have been driven in japan in this state for god knows how long... ive read that this can damage the flywheel etc. is there any truth in this?? :(

Nic
The 6spd NA and TT clutches are the same, have you replaced with stock clutch? If so which parts have been changed (clutch cover, disc, release bearing, flywheel)? The 6spd box is a bit agricultural and can take a bit of getting use to to make smooth gear changes. When was the gearbox oil last changed?
Guest phil_n
thats a good start then at least ive ordered the right clutch. i'm assuming its a full kit which ive got, im not doing the job myself so the clutch is going straight to the garage doing the work. not sure about the oil. the car was only imported before xmas and im the first uk owner.. it might be a job to ask the guys to do when they do the clutch. ADL Mark
Sounds like the flywheel is on it's way out to be honest, mine had a clonking like that when going between some gears, especially when coming hard on to the throttle again. I thought it was the diff having too much lash in it, but after having a new clutch (with integral flywheel) fitted it's gone away. The rubber damper in the middle of the flywheel will wear I believe and give these symptoms.
Guest phil_n
well ive had the clutch changed today. the bloke doing the work was puzzled to find a clutch showing very little wear even though it struggled to pull the weight of the car. the problem turned out to be that the car had the clutch from the 5 speed!! and was only just getting a hold but no where near enough to drive the car about normally. he inspected the flywheel and said it had very little wear. the car drives excellent now so im a very happy chap!!
