Multics
Check your VIN plate, if the trans/axle ends with an A means NOT LSD from factory. If it ends with a B it means LSD fitted from factory.

charlton
Zoom in on the pic on the left and you can see what to look for, its highlighted. If it has an 'A' it is a standard diff, if it is a 'B' it is an LSD The VIN plate is under the bonnet on one of the wings

Rob Dublin
Or lift both rear wheels off the ground (car in neutral) & turn one wheel. If the other wheel turns the opposite way you have an lsd (I think!)

marc_p
Or lift both rear wheels off the ground (car in neutral) & turn one wheel. If the other wheel turns the opposite way you have an lsd (I think!) Not always, mine only locks under acceleration, the rest of the time the wheels can move independantly. Dazzi
Not always, mine only locks under acceleration, the rest of the time the wheels can move independantly. Thats the symptoms of a worn out LSD isn't it? Edited August 27, 2008 by Dazzi (see edit history)
StuartW
can someone clear this up once and for all? p.s without the need to remove the diff and count the teeth etc.
Homer
5k rpm, dump the clutch. If the road has a black 11 it has an LSD, if a black 1 is an open diff
marc_p
5k rpm, dump the clutch. If the road has a black 11 it has an LSD, if a black 1 is an open diff I like to leave an 'ss'
Gordon F
Go down to Sainsbury's car park and if the car will do a do-nut you have an LSD. If the inside wheel just spins, you havent.
Dazzi
But if you have a worn out LSD that can do a 1 mark on the road making you think you have an open diff...
Homer
But if you have a worn out LSD that can do a 1 mark on the road making you think you have an open diff... That wouldn't be a 'worn out' LSD, that'd be a completely f**ked LSD!
