Mike
I was just weeding out the garden.. it's a bit of a jungle out there and pulled up a load of grass that's grown over some of the paving at the end and found a snake!? I thought it was a worm until it started moving?! I found three in total.. The first one was skin coloured, quite thin and about 6-7" long.. flashed it's tongue and legged slithered it... The next two were the same, slightly thicker than the skin coloured one and moved a bit slower. These were brown with black markings down their sides. The first of the two brown ones was about the same length as the skin coloured one, and the second was a few inches longer. As soon as I spotted them and crouched down to get a better look, they were off back into whatever cover they could get. I carried on ripping up weeds/grass hoping I might get another... I've been putting off doing that job for weeks...! If I'd have known there were snakes down there I'd have done it ages ago! Are they just random adders/grass snakes do you think? Mike
I've just bee trawling YouTube for the skin coloured one and I can't find it. The two brown ones were definitely grass snakes I think... could it have been their baby? Three snakes probably constitute a family?! zap
Slow worms mate - perfectly harmless and you are very lucky to have them as they are extremely good for the garden.
Ewen
BTW, if they were single coloured, no stripes, they may have been slow worms. Grass snakes have a black chequer pattern, Adders have a distinct black z-zag stripe down them.

Mike
also.. sorry to come over all 'gardeners question time', but.. Does anyone have any tips for clearing weeds out from between paving slabs? The Round-up stuff is rubbish and weeds are becoming a total pain in the arse...!

Yep, your common or, in your case, garden slow worm. I used to catch these all the time when I was a kid. Makes me want to go out and go 'hunting' now! SupraStar 3000
My parents have a house in spain and they have some really nasty biters. Dad found one in the kitchen one day and picked it up and through it into high grass. Turned out to be a very dangerous.
