Not taking into consideration taxes, and any restrictions on the Turkish bank account, but check this out:

£10k transfers to 28,640 YTL in July 2006

@14% per year becomes 37,220 by July 2008

Which transfers back to £15,508 at the July 2008 exchange rate. That's a 55% return over two years!

I think the key here is the benefit of hindsight. The currency exchange rate could quite easily have gone the other way, i.e. 19% weaker instead of stronger, and may well do in the future.

It may have been mentioned, or you might not have a mortgage, but how about an off-set mortgage.

Not very exciting, but you will save more on your mortgage payments than you would gain in interest in a bank or BS.

Also, as your £10K grows the more you save :)

Buy loads of oil then sell it back :D

Now that would have been a good thing to buy £10k's worth of two years ago, if I knew how, and I had a time machine!

I reckon you should just stick in premium bonds for a year just for a trial period and then evaluate. :) Unless you're desperate for a guaranteed return.

but as said before, it genuinely looks like a better bet to put the interest earned into the National Lottery than the NS&I Premium Bonds lottery, which is all premium bonds are doing.

Premium Bonds...

Number of years held: 43 years

Number of wins: 0

Notified of change of address: yes

:(

OK, I admit it:

Amount of £ invested: 10

But that was when a tenner was really worth a tenner :)

Have you checked on their website to see if you're owed anything, just in case they didn't pick up the change of address? :)

So here's my idea. Stick £10k in a savings account and use the £500-ish interest to buy 500 lottery lines a year.

if you do that on the lottery I will let you into a nice little method that drastically increases your chances of winning but requires a heft amount each month to work
