Martial Arts people: Ironing Hakama!!

Does anyone iron their Hakama?

What a chuffing ball-ache. :D I've just spent over an hour ironing mine and I'm still not happy with the results. I'm seriously considering buying some new ones instead.

Are there any professional Hakama ironing services, ideally in the North.

Oh, and apologies for what must be one of the most 'niche' thread topics of recent time.

Not sure if your ment to iron them mate

http://www.kendo-usa.org/reference/hakama_wash.htm

Probably not alot of help now tho.

I take it you didn't read the page fully? ;)

After drying, fold the hakama and you can think about the meaning of the pleats as you fold it. Generally, it will not need ironing if you do the previous steps. Ironing can cause the fabric to look shiny.

I normally don't iron them. Not even once a year TBH but this time they needed it.

That's OK, I guess all the forums that would contain the sorts of people who would want to chat about this are broken.

Luckily I've forgotten my Megaboost password.

Sometimes it's nice to enquire outside of the normal forums. In the same way that not all Supra owners are members here, not all Kendoka are members of the Kendo World forums, their respective dojo forums or smartarseanswers.com :)

Actually, the smart Aikidokas have the pleat edges stitched in!!

This way, you can HAND wash your Hakama and hang them out to dry and still have those great looking pleats. Before a demo or seminar I always give the edges a cool ironing though

Got to look the biz in the dojo.
