Homer
After having a Greddy 3-Row FMIC fitted it turned out there was no room for the smaller Greddy expansion tank to fit due to my 'oversize' battery. I've been told that I need to order a smaller battery (stock size) to be able to fit the expansion tank. Is it okay to drive without a coolant expansion tank? Jake
It's not a good idea but do-able in the short term if you're careful. The system draws coolant back from the expansion tank into the rad as the coolant temp decreases.

Homer
Okay well I've done at least 500 miles without one, a fair bit of which was at WOT. I think that the fitter thought I was aware of the missing tank, but due to my misunderstanding I was not Its certainly been losing coolant, can I top up with water/normal antifreeze or should I stick to 'Toyota4life'? Miguel
Toyota 4 life all the way and you NEED the tank back , When the system gets hot and the fluids expand it dumps it into the tank and when the level goes down it draws it back in . So without a tank you will no doubt be dumping fluids all the time until it hits a low level then you will most likely get Air pocket which won't help the system or the engine temps for that matter .....get it back in even if its a bodge job of a coke bottle . Jake
I would think that you'll only have a problem when it's heated up and cooled down a few times. Topping up with water/antifreeze will be fine. You know not to put cold water into a hot engine, right? Another problem with not having an expansion tank is that it's bloody dangerous to remove the rad cap if the car hasn't cooled properly and Supras seem to take a very long time to cool. Get a tank on there ASAFP though
Homer
Okay thanks guys, advice appreciated! Action will be taken 1st thing tomorrow!! Cheers
Miguel
LOL expansion tank won't make a piss bit of difference removing the cap when hot bud ...just don't to it period when hot ...well not unless you have lost all you nerve endings or you are made from a heat proof material . Oh and if your car is running 4life at the mo try to top up with it 1. its pre mixed and you really don't want to start diluting it in this weather and 2. dont ever mix it with another Antifreeze ...stick with what is in there. Jake
LOL expansion tank won't make a piss bit of difference removing the cap when hot bud Heh! I think you misunderstood me Mig I meant that if you don't have an expansion tank you can only top the coolant up by putting it directly into the rad (by removing the cap) If you've got a tank you can just fill that up and the system will draw in what it needs.
