juanchan
Thats terrible that could happen, the engineer needs to go to jail:( Can't view the video at work, but that attitude towards engineers is quite unhelpful. The chief engineers who were in charge of concorde are currently being charged with not designing it to withstand the impact of debris from the runway. If they are found guilty, you won't find anyone on the planet willing to be a signatory on aircraft development for less than a silly silly amount of money. I know a lot of people who have already refused £10k payrises to be signatories on Airbus projects because of the hassle it brings! No-one's perfect and can't be expected to be either. Sorry, mini rant over. It's been a long day

garethr
The original version on the Shelby County Today site is no longer available, but according to the cached copy: At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-In on Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller of Garrison, and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured. According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling. Sorry, mini rant over. It's been a long day As far as i know the engineers of the concord have been given the all clear, its the engineers who worked on the boeing that left the accelerator bracket attached wrongly that are taking the hit now. Those guys really do deserve the jail. 2 seperate times the plane went in, the first time the French put it on wrong and the 2nd time, it think it was the canadians, failed to notice and re-attached it wrongly also. During takeoff it fell off causing a very minor problem on the plane, however it left a big chunk of metal lying for the concord to run over. They are looking into laser blanket's for the airports now. Think they are testing them in the UK just now.
merckx
Can't view the video at work, but that attitude towards engineers is quite unhelpful. I've got to agree with Jamie, the roof came down far too easily. There was always going to be a chance that this might happen so you should really design this with this in mind. Whoever designed it or if it wasn't put up correctly then they definately should take some of the blame.
Scott
Its not just how easily it came down, although it was unbelievably easy, it should split into sections too so that it doesn't collapse in one big piece causing all that damage. Stress points or something like that.
