help with all the plugs in the footwell

ive put my dash back todaywith my boyfriends help (he did most of it[OOPS][/OOPS]) . Anyway, we are having a little trouble identifying some of the plugs underneath the drivers side by the pedals. The footwell lights plug into somewhere, theres a plug and socket that will go into each other but no where else. They must go in somewhere and not just plug into themselves as they would make a loop which wouldnt be connected to the battery i guess. Also there is a rather white large plug and socket (about 20pics each mininum) that look like they plug into themselves but this cant be right either. Does anyone know where these go? There is about 10cm wires on them from plug to socket and comming off them are about 3 or 4 wires that go to a box under the drivers seat.

these are the only bits left to do and it makes no sense how to do them so hopefully someone can help me out:(

i am aware that harnesses can plug into each other, it just seems stupid that a harness will plug into itself.

If i have 4 plugs in one area also, 2 black and 2 white. They can be interchanged. Is it likely though that the colours match or could the white female plug go into the black male one and vice-versa.

Perhaps i should gets pics of the ones im stuck with, may make it easier to identify??

thanks for your help so far though

But can you see where the other ends go?

When I've disconnected harness plugs in the past I've always found that you won't have more than one plug the same so you cannot go wrong.Ignore the colours they won't necessarily correspond.

 I've just had the whole dash out of one to do a heater matrix, and connecting the plugs back is fairly easy. Just make sure the wires are in the same positions they were before you removed the dash, and it'll become obvious what goes where.

i decided to plug the connectors in where i thought they should go following the part of the cable, the colours didnt match but they did fit into each other. Hooked up the rest of the wires and cables, but the handbrake wire cable snapped (tiny little brown wire). I then tried to fire the car up and it started first time, then checked the lights, all the exterior lights work and interior ones apart from the ones around the dials. Perhaps it was too light as it was early in the eve so i will try again tonight. I also got the big red triangle light come on but im hoping that its down to the handbrake wire being broke. My boyfriend checked for error codes and said there wasnt any too so thats a good thing too i guess
