gaz1
need to change my exhaust and plumb in my screamer pipe, just worried that going from a veilside titanium to a Tanabe exhaust may be to restrictive, any thoughts and is anyone running 600ish through one of the quieter exhausts i believe the tanabe is 80mm
Mr. Fish
i dont know how much power Nic is running, but i think he's using a GReddy 80mm on a single...

Uses the Tanabe for racing. Silencers are straight through too.
JamieP
Id say you are gonna lose power with any quiet exhaust, Wez lost 70bhp plumbing his wastegate back in and putting another box in the exhaust so ripped it out again:D Im staying loud and will just do the odd loud trackday. I know one guy over in the U.S that carries out independant tests moved from a 2.5 to a 4.25 and gained 40 bhp - he's usually pretty conservative in comparison to the dyno queens out there, that was on a high end turbo though But even losing half that figure would pee me off The thing I'd worry about is the increased egt's with the extra backpressure
Wez
really fecking hell!!! Yeah it was that much Its all back now though and loud again, I will try the Tanabe next as I have one sat here
Ryan.G
It will definatly need checking afterwards Gaz, Ignition timing normally has to be pulled. Ryan
bolarbag
Its all back now though and loud again, Do you still have the wg plumbed back in? I could see a restriction there if you have a small dp but 3inch and above shouldnt cause too much hassle, I'm defo getting my wg pipe plumbed back in, I hate the raw noise - it would be even worse with 2 of them! Wez
Do you still have the wg plumbed back in? Not at the moment, I needed to go back to how it was so we could nail down what caused the power loss, it was the exhaust I will get it back on the dyno after the Tanabe Medalion has been fitted and see what difference that makes. Ryan.G
what about if i left the waste gate out and just changed to an 80mm exaust Yup, the wastegate venting back in doesn't really change much. Its the added restriction that does from a quieter exhaust. Their are exhaust out there which kill sound and keep flow but they are mega bucks just for the backbox Ryan

Are you available for a weekend mapping session Ryan? I need to get the car sorted before the mile long drag event. (or would that be a good time to map???) colsoop
Gaz get one made up. A good company should be able to keep a reasonable flow while reducing noise. An off the shelf system will be be a compromise for a car of your spec.
Nic
Gaz I'm running around 542hp through a Greddy Ti-R 80mm exhaust (there is also a 90mm version available), this is one of the few Japanese branded exhausts that are road legal, rated at 92Db. It certainly doesn't feel restrictive, response is very good off or on boost. They are 100% titanium and beautifully made. jevansio
Gaz although mine is 4" my downpipe & midpipe is 3", they say the dp/mp is the most restrictive bit, and if I ran 3" all the way it wouldn't be too different performance wise. As you know I run the GT4088R @ 1.6 BAR on that setup with no screamer & a custom rear box & I make around the 600bhp mark. PS I'm taking the JamieP approach now though, 4" DP/MP and only going to days with no noise restrictions
