imi
Bobbeh.....UK cars are better spec.....I like those headlight washers too and the heated door mirrors.....but nothing can beat the £800 / yr saving in insurance of a UK one over a Jspec for me... unfortunately I couldnt find a low mileage UK spec 6 sp manual in Black....which is exactly what I have...(bar from the UK spec).. Bobbeh
Imi, im not questioning your choice of what you drive or running it down at all. I have no idea if you have a J-spec or UK, it makes no difference

MONKEYmark
what about the later spec of a jap facelift car or even later vvti supra a much newer car they made them quite a while after they stopped making uk spec supras. dont forget CW when he was saying he thinks the j spec are more responsive. and he would not have a uk spec. good spec on uk cars though
Terminator
dont forget CW when he was saying he thinks the j spec are more responsive. spec. That will be because they are lighter and have faster spooling turbos.
Bobbeh
That would be the weight saved from the smaller brakes, injectors, ceramics cloth seats and various other bits missing I guess
MONKEYmark
i bet its not that much difference. whats the quoted specs for weight? 1550kg a GZ has all the toys. i must say i did notice a difference when i had been driving round in escort with a supra gearbox, a full 25l tub of cool blue, 2x 20l tubs of methanol and about 10 l tub of another race fuel also lots of other crap like a tea making set up. it feels a bit better to drive. Keith C
That would be the weight saved from the smaller brakes, injectors, ceramics cloth seats and various other bits missing I guess Curse those manufacturers for thinking lightweight is the way to go. We must all start driving tanks immediately!

The people who are usually disappointed are those with UK spec cars, I drive dozens of MKIV's, to be honest i wouldn't have a UK car as a gift, they are as different as chalk and cheese, forget cited power figures, the Jap cars are eager and responsive, they really screwed up with the UK / USA models, IMO. /ducks/ C.Wilson 14/11/03 Dude '
Matt Harwood
Nearly, the UK has larger spec engine components, Smaller turbos... Stronger maybe, but smaller... Just though I'd point that out
Bobbeh
Smaller turbos... Stronger maybe, but smaller... Just though I'd point that out Hate to sound uber petty first thing on a Sunday morning, but smaller compressor wheels yes Same size turbo housing is it not?! Keith, they are different cars for different markets, whats the point in putting 4 pots on a car thats limited to 112, theres nothing genius about it. UK/Euro/US spec cars were designed with more of a GT package in mind, cruising, driving longer distances at speed. I'm not advocating weight, why do you think I have a Ti exhaust! That is correct. Just pointing out that the export spec isn't always bigger as some people seem to think Just being pedantic

Seb
Did I step back in time? Why are we still talking about J specs and UKs? They're different cars, they drive differently, but they're both Supras, they're both very fast cars and surely that's all that matters? I'm more than happy with my UK, and if I were going to do things again, I'd get a standard UK car and not worry too much about the gearbox, mainly from an insurance/personal perspective. If my age/location didn't matter, then the chances are that I'd go for whatever came to hand that was in good condition and I liked the look of. RZ? GZ? VVTi? Why not?! It's all good baby. I got love for the NAs too. Learning about the world of J spec vs UK spec is a BBS right of passage, and we've all been there, done that and got the T-shirt. Let's focus on loving our cars and each other and leave it at that.
Aerotop Dave
I think you've missed the point. This wasn't so much about UK versus J Spec, it was more about 'if you had the choice of all the Supra models, which one would you have?'
Seb
I got that idea from page 1, but I go to page 4 and it's all 'my turbos are bigger than yours' etc!

The guy just wanted to know some differences.. its wasnt meant as a bragging match as so many try to paint it as being. Chill
imi
They're all Sup at the end of the day and cracking cars...I like them anyway....the TT ones
Soop Dogg
Only note of caution - you'll be getting an older car. Youngest TT Aerotops are now 11 years old. Mine is a '95 GZ TT Aerotop and therefore is only 10 years old.(Obviously PRE-Facelift) WITH a passenger airbag. (Probably an option IanC, before you pick me up on the original question) Still drives great, looks great, Starts every morning (You know who you are ) and turns so many heads, especially in the summer when the roof is off you wouldn't believe it! I have a hard top and an Aerotop in the driveway, both TT's, both Autos. I paid over £3k in paint last year just to tidy things up a bit and a fair amount rebuilding my wheels and a few other bits and pieces. With that sort of outlay I could have bought whichever model of Supra I wanted. Well, just so as the chap who originally asked the question doesn't get TOO put off by the age thing, I wouldn't swap my aerotop for the latest top of the range most recent model of Supra if given the choice! It's a very different beast. I'm not quite so into the whole speed thing anymore, I just enjoy driving the car so much more, but it can still go pretty fast if I want it to. It's a personal thing I suppose. I love my aerotop! (I like being where I want to be with cars!!)
Aerotop Dave
Interesting. I thought they were only made for 2 years, 1993 and 1994. Anyway, thanks for correcting my mistake - I was sooooo far out! So where is your passenger airbag then? Have you not got 2 glove boxes?
Scooter
my 'K' plate aerotop has an airbag and it replaces the top glove box......
Faye
my 'K' plate aerotop has an airbag and it replaces the top glove box...... I remember viewing a S reg (99) NA aerotop that didn't have a passenger airbag, just two glove boxes, yet my R reg (98) one does have a passenger airbag. As Brian says, probably an optional extra - bit of a weird one if you ask me.
