michael
I'm getting tempted.... http://www.0-60mag.com/online/?p=4817 http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/224571/ford_focus_rs.html ...powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre petrol engine, producing in excess of 280bhp and powering the front wheels. I know it's "just a Focus" and all that but anyone who has driven a modern Ford that has even the slightest hint of "sport" about it should be able to confirm that they can be a lot of fun when it comes to handling and smiles - with 280bhp+ it's bound to make you smile, just not in green despite it being a heritage colour for an RS. JamieP
They look nice and im sure they are a good car but i dont think i could bring myself to ever own another FWD car, especially one with that much power, why wont ford build another 4WD car like the iconic Escort cosworth amazes me:search:
jevansio
I think it looks stunning, I would defo consider one, I know what Jamie is saying about the FWD thing though
Chris Wilson
Volvo are getting a bit more adventurous, styling and power wise, and they share engines with Ford, I just hope THEY may bite the bullet and make a powerful small RWD car. It seems Ford are stuck in the front wheel drive rut, sadly.
erol_h
Looks very kool not so keen on the colour. I do agree bring back the proper old skool fords RWD.
michael
I know what you are saying on the FWD thing, I'm OK with being dragged rather than pushed but it'll be interesting to see what happens once the road tests start coming through. The last one seemed to be a mixed bag, some worked, some didn't, the new one has another ~80bhp to harness.
kosmic
lovely,we get one in a month or so...looking forward to it (work for Ford)
James
Focus aRSe? just kidding I would prefer if they weren't FWD. The old Escort and Sierra Cossies need a modern day equivalent!
Whitesupraboy2
That in imperial blue would look lovely. However I agree it needs to be 4wd!

Maybe well controlled FWD is the modern day equivalent? If they went RWD or 4WD I guess the price would have to go up to reflect this and nobody would pay £30k for a Focus would they? I agree it would be nice though, sadly economics come first - as Chris says maybe Volvo will make the most of the engine?
Gaz6002
The FRS this time round is at best "warm". I'd be a lot more excited about a tuned ST if I'm honest but neither float even a tiny piece of my boat. If I was going for good value and FWD i'd been looking at the Astra Nurburgring edition like GarethEves just bought. That or the Alfa Brera S because it looks so damn good. colsoop
I wonder if they sorted out that awful torque steer issue of the old model.
RedM
I like it and I'm sure that, as a point and squirt car, it'll be a lot more useful far more often than a Supra.... BUT... ....have you seen the c*cks that drive the current one? Clarkson wasn't joking when he called it chavvy on TG. The new one will attract the same crowd and that is more than enough for me to say "nice car but not for me".

SteveR
On & off, Ford have been testing an AWD Focus RS at the 'Ring in the past few months, but apparently they've taken the decision that it'll never get built. http://bridgetogantry.com/images/image/april08/focus4wd.jpg http://bridgetogantry.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=183&Itemid=1 Ford has officially announced the new Ford Focus RS will be a five-cylinder front-wheel-drive. The news will come as a blow to those Ford-fans who glimpsed the designs and ensuing test mules which sported the larger transverse six-cylinder motor and 4WD system. The last one seemed to be a mixed bag, some worked, some didn't, the new one has another ~80bhp to harness. Apparently the bods at fraud decided that the extra weight of a 4wd was not worth the hassle and with the Revoknuckle front suspension that they have developed plus the Quaiffe auto diff the torque steer should be minimal. btw Michael its only an extra 57 bhp as the ST is rated at 223 bhp and the Mk1 RS was rated at 212 so that would be only 68!! Official power figures for the new car haven't been released yet, some sources seem to suggest it will be around the 300bhp mark. But carry on... bolarbag
For a daily driver 4WD would have been good in bad weather conditions and for the care free driving aspect, but on track if set up properly the difference would be minimal in FWD layout, and you have less weight too When it comes to actual driveability, RWD would have been so much more fun, disappointing imho but thumbs up for going ahead with the project in this day and age:)
