hitting fuel cut

i did a serch but nothing the same as i havent had the car long and im not fully sure whats been done to it.

 

it looks compleatly standard apart from being de-limeted and a big exhaust belived to be a top secret one? the lad i bought it off said it ownly had one cat.

 

the car has been fine for weeks and on track days i have hit well above 160 but today it hit fuel cut at around 120??? it was pretty violent power loss for a couple of seconds then kicked back into life but ownly to hit fuel cut agen in the next gear. it mainly did it by the red line but it did it quite urly like 5k at one time.

 

any ideas why it would all of a sudern start doing this or why its over boosting/spiking?

Check to see if there is anything spliced into the ECU wiring loom, the ECU is located in the passenger footwell underneath the carpet and behind the plastic cover.

 

Fit a boost gauge if you don't have one already and if you don't have an FCD fitted, I'd recommend fitting a Greddy Boost Cut Controller.

no boost gauge it is very standard still got standard air box and i dont want to tune it as im happy with it how it is now.

 

i understand a FCD would solve it but it would alow it to overboost which would cause more problems i just want it back to the way it was.

 

somthing must have chainged to cause it to overboost but nothing has been done under the bonnet to disturb anything.

yes it has 1 grey wire spliced into the engine controll ecu and it has a tag on it but its all in japanese so it must have been done before the car was imported, its definitely after market.

mine does the exact same thing on full throttle. havent got round to put a fcd in but like the question being asked when you put the fcd doesnt it allow the boost to run higher thus putting your engine/turbos at risk??

 

The FCD doesn't necessarily allow you run higher boost on it's own, for example it won't suddenly make your car go from 0.8 to 1.2 bar. You need a boost controller for that. What an FCD does, is prevent the engine from reacting to the overboost.

 

EDIT : In fact, hover over the word fcd :)

If you raise the boost above stock then you will reduce the life of the turbos to a certain extent, the engine should be fine provided AFR's are okay.

 

Most FCD's raise the boost cut rather than completely eliminate it, so as long the new boost cut is set at a safe level then all should be fine.
