I've got tears in my eyes reading this, so sad.:(

Our cat "Merckx" died when he was 12 1/2 after having problems with his kidneys.

We had him as a pet since the day he was born as his mother who was a stray and had taken refuge in my brothers house in order to give birth.

He hadn't been well for a few weeks, many trips to the vets . He came down stairs one morning and walked into the kitchen where I was standing and his legs just gave way, we knew immediately that we would have to take him to the vets to get him put to sleep.

I felt totally empty for quite some time. I was going to say that it was the worst day of my life which it probably was but you've just got to try and be aware that unfortunately they've got to go sometime but remember that you did what was best and they had a fantastic home.

It does get easier.

I missed this thread originally mate - I so feel for you. My moggy is coming up to 9 years and I have no idea what I would do without her... no more snuggles and excuses to stay in bed on the weekends because the cat had "only just got comfy snugglin" ;). I know their time is fleeting compared to ours and we have to let em go - but it is bloody hard and heart wrenching. Chin up chap! Happy memories of a furry mouse worrier that knew they were loved!

Time is a good healer.

Ten years after "Merckx" died we got another cat, "Barney" was a stray who we took in. He's great, it's nice to give another cat a home. :)

Unfortunately we lost one of our old Siamese just over a month ago, to kidney failure, so we had to make the decision:( it amazing what a gap she has left behind, despite having several cats, there always seems too few now, they do have big personality's, we tend to feed any strays and catch and re home them if we can, and four years ago we managed to catch a very timid and bedraggled black tom, anyway we tried to re home him about three times but he was not at all happy so we kept him and managed to integrate him with our Siamese colony, (not an easy task)

you would not believe the difference in this moggy, he has now got lots of confidence (cheek;)) and is totally dedicated to me, even waits outside the bathroom door of a morning and calls me, he is very loving and soft:D

Sorry to hear that :(

We need more pics of your other cats to cheer us up though :)

Do yours have free roam to go outside when they like? I know Siamese aren't likely to wander off far and I think Yoshi would just potter round the garden with us if we let him wander around, but we don't want to risk him running off and getting stolen. He has a harness and long lead and does have a wander round outside on occasion though :D

I will fire up the other PC and get some pics into Photobucket later, our garden is carefully fenced to keep ours in and others out, they are pretty much content to lounge about now that they are getting on a bit, but we have had some panics in the past when one or two have decided to go walkabout.

This is our rescue, Momo, who has adopted me as his own.

This innocent little creature is called Loki, aptly named;)

This is the complete tribe.

And finally a tribute to our Kayla, who is now gone but never forgotten:(
