keener
'Family crisis' is never questioned and pretty non specific so you can just give it the old 'yeah, we worked it out - don't really want to talk about it' as the stock reply to any enquiry on return to work. BTW in the flu season if pulling a sickie just lay on the bed with your head hanging back over the edge when you make the phone call and your voice is instantly changed as if you really were bunged up! However, as an employer I do not condone any pulling of sickies!

Guest Budz86
Tell your boss it was a crazy night last night and your missus wanted you to try viagra to see if it made a difference. Unfortunatly you underestimated the powerful effects of it and you can't really leave the house at the moment. You will get endless amount of stick when you get back to work but it has a funny side. Also, the added bonus of being so stupid, it will be believed to be true!

Gaz6002
I "forgot" to go to bed once after a night out and phoned in to the bar I was working in and told them I was pregnant. Needless to say I left the place shortly afterwards.
probrox
Whenever I phone in sick its normally because I'm knackered and struggling to force myself out of bed in the morning. In this situation I normally go for Irritable Bowel Syndrome or migraine but inform the boss I've taken some pain killers and try to get in when I feel better. I then turn up at 2 o'clock and the boss gives me a pat on the back for going in when i'm not well.

Branners
Im a manager and sadly none of those lines work. The good managers will keep track of the excuses dolled out and will 'discuss' them at a later date if the opportunity arises. Your best bet is to stop arsing about and get in to work. If you fancy a day off then use one of the 20-25 days they give you as you know you will struggle to get them all used by the end of the year anyway. its harsh, but then you are paid to do a job and with the way the market is at the moment I would try to hold on to your job as best you can. I hate people that pay sickies. Lame ass waste of spaces that screw up the sickness system for other people who genuinely are ill. It just so happens I have screwed up my back and it's agony so just be thankful you haven't and get to work or get a new job you enjoy! I think what some people may forget, managers where probably in the same job at some stage and have done all the excuses or heard them already. Reminds me of kids (waits to get flamed), they like to think they have found the best excuse forgetting of course that we were younger and pretty much pulled the same tricks thinking our folks didn't know which they did At the end of the day chap, you get paid for a job and if it is part of your contract...well.... you should do the job. In my line of work, I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home, and I usually end up doing at least some work when I'm sick if not from a professional point of view but purely because of the Jeremy Kyle show
