iPhone 3G - anyone tempted?

they did drop back when that phone came out. Sharp is no competitor by any means, but was using that to illustrate the time period.

Market share did fall back in this period.

Not that you are disputing Nokia's share price, but it has fallen as below as per my original post.

Please dont argue with me about finance

Sharp does not have significant enough market share for any model of theirs to affect Nokia market share.

I didn't dispute that Nokia's shares had fallen - I said it was a general trend on the stock market. You could easily find a hundred companies who's shares dropped in the same period.

Trust me - I know more about Nokia and their market share than you do.

You're welcome to reply - each time I post on this board (very rarely these days) I remember what a total waste of time it is. It's like being in a school playground and I'm really too old for that. Enjoy having the last word.

I agreed with you that you didn't dispute share price had fallen.

Plus I NEVER said sharp's gx10 increased market share Sharp. That phone DID, however influence people to begin buying clamshell type phones - which in turn cost Nokia marketshare at that time.

Assume we can agree on these points at least.

EDIT - I also never claimed to know more about Nokia or mobile phones than you - you may well know a hell of a lot more than me. But I do know the facts I did state above and stand by them

Not interested in Apple stuff, but admire the clever marketing - getting people suckered into buying songs on the iPod so they're locked in for life rather than using free MP3s etc

Just got the Sony Ericson W910i as an upgrade for £18 per month with 500 mins/texts per month. Don't use most of the features, but like the phone and I've had a couple of Sony's now. Can't stand Nokia phones - have got one for work and the controls are not as intuitive as the Sony's

I have got mine on Friday, long q but lucky the carphone shop is not popular like others. I got the last 8Gb phone and all 16Gb was long gone.

I was kinda con into buying this one because although it has GPS built in there is no nav software at the moment because apple not allow third party to use it as nav or critical control application..

it is like whats the point having GPS but no nav system.

3G internet is good tho, full size internet browsing and I am on this forum on the go :)

i don't like the size. i keep my phone in my front pocket (nokia 6300) it is just a phone (and an emergency camera.)

the iphone is too big and stabs me when i sit down and looks like you have an odd bulge when wearing formal trousers!

so i have an ipod touch for music & movies, which i can leave behind, and a phone for a phone! - i will probably convert when the size is reduced to the screen size and no more.

The remote control iTunes app is superb! I don't want a fancy sling box anymore.

This is firmware 2.0 running on my iTouch - filmed on my iPhone so yes, it CAN record video!

Just upgraded to 2.0 myself and been playing with the Apps.

Out of interest where did you get the App to allow your iPhone to record video?

Thanks for the reply Pete and bugger, I was hoping that wasn't going to be the case. I've been searching for a while and the only things I've found are for jailbroken phones.

Only a matter of time I suppose until something comes up.

Out of interest, can you use bluetooth properly on jail broken phones, or is it just a failing with the handset rather than some poxy restriction?

I never use it to be honest.

Let me try. Hmm, can't connect to the Nokia.

Looking around it seems it doesn't support most BT protocols.

  • 4 weeks later...

Well I have had my 16gb 3G iPhone for 24 hours now.

What an utterly pointless piece of equipment!!! I love it. :D

Well not quite love, it looks great and for me it is not too big or intrusive. Have not got a clue what all those applications are you can download but will soon find out. Once connected to wi-fi it is very quick on the internet so the youtube feature is great, using normal wap (or whatever it is called) it is the usual slow.

The GPS is so far very good, had it on today coming home on the train and it followed the arial map of the train track spot on. I have not tested the camera yet so nothing to say on that. Setting up my Yahoo email was simple as Name> email addy> password, that’s it and I was able to read and send emails from it.

One thing that is getting right on my nerves is sending text messages. It is a QWERTY set up and you cannot change it. It may not bother Blackberry or PDA users but it is really annoying. Only thing that has went wrong(ish) so far is had to restart it today as it would not connect at all, could only call or text.

Really? That for me is one of the biggest plus points. I hate all this tap tap tap nonsense.

Having not so thin fingers it is a pain, I am getting used to it though and the fact it sorts your spelling (it is as if iPhone knew it was stupidly small) is ok.

Other thing is you cannot receive mms, you have to log onto 02 to view, now to me a phone that can support taking pictures is not designed to receive them is a bit of a downfall.

You cannot send contacts i.e. setting up on my bluetooth head unit.

Battery is not so great, Although have switched off everything that is not needed about 30 mins ago so will see if this makes a difference.

Turning off PUSH and PULL auto mail collection makes a HUGE difference. Also Bluetooth.

MMS - never used it. Picture straight to web is the future and it works a treat. (If only camera was slightly better). I've not tried the sending a contact thing. Interesting.

In a way it is advanced on what it can do, however in many ways it is also quite basic with not so many phone features if that makes sense?

The Internet is great though, using it now replying to this. ;)

They're not a phone manufacturer so it's to be expected I guess. As a tool, the phone part of it is really secondary. For me Nokia have always made the best actual phones and if I had to rely or use a mobile a lot then it'd be a Nokia.

mine was stright from the word go, imported contacts, tunes, pictures etc

Did you back up your old phone first?

Yep , got it sorted now .

I made a slight sim card error

Anyone know if its possible to use my msn mail account instead of the other options so i dont have to go on safari and msn.co.uk everytime to get my mail?
