GazB
Thought you would have heat wrapped the manifold before fitting, is there a reason you haven't?
tooquicktostop
Thought you would have heat wrapped the manifold before fitting, is there a reason you haven't? Mark never wrapped mine, had some issues with cracking on a wrapped manifold perhaps ??

bolarbag
I've been put off this too, it encourages cracking especially around welds
Jake
and it looks sh!t. (heat wrapping I mean)
Kev.O
and it looks sh!t. (heat wrapping I mean) I think if you take your time and try and get the wrap real tight it doesn't look that bad IMHO:
hogmaw
It looks neat enough there when first put on, but won't it go manky after a while and be hard to clean
supradibbs
I think when done well wraping can look nice i did mine
JamieP
For me its not a case of how the wrapping looks, if i thought it was necessary id fit it, the manifold is heat coated and i dont feel it needs wrapping, never had the last one wrapped and that was fine. GazB
Brake fluid res?
JamieP
Out of interest Jamie did you go for a sprung hub or a unsprung hub clutch plate? The option just came to my mind this morning when my buddy got his through the post, with no springs in the clutch plate I did not know there was a choice, pic of the clutch on the first post. Brake fluid res? heat sheid and turbo blanket will protect that as on my first supra.
bolarbag
lol, the Brake Fluid Reservoir is nowhere near the manifold I can't see the pic until 4, if it has springs its sprung, otherwise its unsprung You can specify which clutch plate you would like when ordering, I think the generic first choice for Max 'Street' Clutches would be sprung so if you never specified they would probably just send that With the unsprung clutch as there are more stresses getting taking up with the drivetrain this may increase the chances of the flywheel chattering overtime, there is less roational mass though and less chance of the clutch plate failing, I've never heard of a sprung RPS clutch fail, that said I'm sure there will be one at the power they put through them over in the U.S I have a sprung, better for daily driving, although the 6Puk initially offsets that
bolarbag
Question - is this OK to just tap the egt probe in the manifold like this, doesnt this promote cracking, with the alternative welding a bung in there then drilling?
JamieP
We will soon know. Went to see the car and Lee is doing a loverly job of things and the car is coming along nicely, Turbo with water and oil lines is now on as is exhaust. Change of plan, im not going to bother with the powdercoating as im planning on changing to a VWR inlet manifold over the winter and ill get the bits done then. JamieP
Turbo installed. Exhaust fitted. Lee has now started on the blitz lm intercooler, bit annoying it had a dent in it when unwrapped:( Edited August 14, 2008 by JamieP (see edit history)
Lee P
Shame about that, you cant see it with the bumper on though.
DannoSupra
Getting there now dude... looking sweet!!! Will you by any chace getting any vids? i'de love to hear that with HKS Ti!!! Homer
Excellent progress, easy when it's being done by a pro Shame about that dent though, can it be (carefully) pulled out? Are you leaving the crash bar in place? Seems a real waste of a decent IC if 30% of it can't do anything
JamieP
Yea maybe but as the stock bumper covers it dont really matter:) Im thinking leave it in place as ive seen what happens to them in a front end.
Lee P
Yeah leaving it in, as Jamie said the bumper covers it there any way.
Homer
Couldn't you make a duct from the upper part of the bumper to the top of the IC to seal the whole front of the IC? It'd be a fiddle, but should make a massive improvement to the IC efficiency. Similar to the way the duct for the stock rad works? Might be a project for the future though! Lee P
If the intake temps become a problem and Jamie doesnt mind loosing the crash bar that would be a really good idea. I dont think it will be an issue but we will see, could be a little project for the winter
