merckx
I didn't expect to see the lorry on the wrong side of the road, not much left of the car. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1033924/Six-young-people-killed-horror-crash-lorry.html

Scott
6 in the one car? Terrible loss. Wonder if they were on the wrong side of the road or whether it was the driver
Multics
Terrible, all 6 young.
bolarbag
It looks like the lorry hit the car on his side of the road and dragged it across the lane from the skid marks and debris Only an observation, and a pretty bad one since that big feck off tree is in the way Sad! Wez
If you look behind the lorry there is a trail or debris, it looks like the impact was further back on the lorries side of the road and the lorry has then pushed the car to the position you see them now. In which case I would guess the car was on the wrong side of the road. Not good and a silly waste of life
Supragal
Double white lines - I wish people knew what they meant. I see so many people merrily overtaking on them. Very sad.
tbourner
Double white lines - I wish people knew what they meant. I see so many people merrily overtaking on them. Very sad. It looks like the lorry was on his side of the road, but had turned to try and avoid a collision hence ended up on the other side. So I would doubt the Mondeo was overtaking anyone unless they were nowhere near getting past them!! Probably just too many people in a car that couldn't handle it, either going too fast and went wide or maybe had a blowout or something. Chewie
With 6 passengers the Mondeo would have handled like a pig going round all those bends. Very sad for all concerned.

colsoop
6 up I think it was the car on the wrong side of the road. There are some scuff marks on the lorries side of the road which would indicate an impact around that point. Mondeo overcooked it on that bend hit the lorry going the other way and game over, at that speed the forces involved must have been horific
hoff
Very sad:( I heard the lorry driver had been arrested.

garethr
I heard the lorry driver had been arrested. "The lorry driver, a 48-year-old man from Melton Mowbray, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving....... He was later released by police without action...... Sergeant Simon Adkin, of Leicestershire Police, said:......"The lorry driver is now being treated as a significant witness." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1033924/Six-young-people-killed-horror-head-smash-lorry.html

tbourner
I should say he's a significant witness, suprised none of the police have thought to go up to him and say "So what happened then?".

Aero-M
very sad. can't help thinking if they hadn't been silly enough to have 6 up it might not have happened, they haven't said if drink was involved?
merckx
It is feared that the dead are three young couples. Police confirmed the Mondeo's driver, a 23 year old man, died along with two other men, aged 18 and 19, and two women aged 18 and 19. A further woman also died, but her age is not yet known. None of the six has yet been named. What a waste, I've lost count of the number of accidents like this involving young people and multiple fatalities. Just a mile away from me on a 30mph residential road three teenagers died when their speeding car hit a tree and burst into flames.
