Gaz6002
Hi all, I have a friend who is looking to build a Series 1 Escort RST (mk3 shape) with an AWD system. Does anyone know where we can find him a Volvo T5 AWD system or another system which will be suitable? He's already got a couple of Escort donor cars so only need the bits for the bespoke system. TIA

Really? Interesting... He's already got 2 diamond white RSTs to use in the project. He's a bit of a purist but doesn't want to use Cossy stuff as it's so common. He knows exactly what he wants, except the AWD system I'll have a look for the Getrag kit.
Supragaz
I had a Series 1 RST custom mady many moons ago and it was so much fun. Still like the look and sound of them but the Supra is obviously in a different league Thanks for the trip down memory lane
Wez
A long time ago I had a S2 RST, was a fun car. I heard about the RWD conversions but the AWD is new to me.
Gaz6002
A long time ago I had a S2 RST, was a fun car. I heard about the RWD conversions but the AWD is new to me. I've seen Cossy running gear under a S1 RST shell but not this kind of conversion. I think that's half the attraction - going into the unknown. He will be using some pretty cool modern parts to get it working. It's sounding like the Volvo bits are probably the way forward at the mo. I'll try and keep you all updated. Guest DIRK DIGGLER
think itwas gartrac rather than getrag...they make gearboxes whereas gartrac have built rally cars for eons....martin scanche or some fella with a funny name used to use a mk3 in karcher colours that was built by gartrac i think in the british rallycross... as for running gear you could always use an atlas axle for the rear off a 2.8 capri which if built properlyand 5-linked should handle a good 300 horses easy enough..run that through an escort cossie box with a gartrac front end and your sideways before you can say "butter me muffin!"....ahh the old escort days ...it brings back fond memories!!!! im still a crap driver too!! hope it helps....... im probably wrong anyhow... add heywood
Im selling an s2 cabriolet at the moment. As you say the most common conversion is to use the floor pan and running gear of the sierra cosworth. Would be interesting to see something different. Probably cost a fair bit though! Tell him to buy a supra instead
n boost
My mate owns a company called SPEC ONE engineering who are cossy specialists. He has a couple rs500's and a Awd escort rs turbo running escort cosworth running gear. He has done a few conversions and really knows his fords. Pm me and can give u his number and he should be able to sort most bits and bobs out for u.
heckler
sounds a bit like an MK4 gold running audi quattro UR running gear and engine... which has been done by dahlbach - - 900 bhp
Nick
Please don't tell me he's going to butcher two genuine S1 RST's for this?!?!? They must be worth a fair bit now, can't be many left... I had a hell of a job finding a good one in '96 and gave up and bought a S2 instead. When I was looking into it, Gartrac did a RWD conversion for the MKIII Escort. Still, could be worth a call. Saw a MKI Escort once that had a Cossie 4WD floorpan. Stunning car, bet it went well too
Gaz6002
Just to bump this. We're looking at L8 management for the engine, does anyone have any experience with this?
MartinBattye
mitsi evo 4rs gear.. perfect. strong compact narrow enough to not need huge arches.. whole setup subbed in the bottom of s1 shell.. nearly did a ka like this with the mitsi evo too. measures up nicely.. plus parts are in good supply and fair price. Gaz6002
what motor you running,, level 8 is archaeic.. why use that? it was a suggestion that was given to us. Personally I'm in favour of Pectel etc. Looks like motor might be the 2.5 lump in the latest ST...
