SteveR
Esso Dextron D21065 - is that the best thing to stick in there Vs paying over the odds for Toyotas ever rarer OEM stuff? I've read all the threads and am still confused, plus there seem to have been many developments since the "definitive" alternatives were posted. TIA! SteveR
Gah, or what about Royal purple synchromax? That gets recommended a few times, on here & Supraforums. EDIT: no, scratch that, other people rate it very BADLY as well. The above looks the best bet, can anyone put my fears to bed and confirm? SteveR
Or should I go with the V160 oil, mascarading as a BMW gearbox oil called MTF-LT-1?
SteveR
Gah this gets harder: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=1166582&postcount=61 Or does it? http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=1166837&postcount=
SteveR
Why isn't there any concensus of opinion. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=1168020&postcount=98 ...we would recommend that you use is Fuchs/Silkolene Titan ATF3000 (Dexron II) ...[but] The Fuchs Titan ATF 4000 is a better quality product although not a DII but a DIII
Guest Nicholas
IIRC Ashbhp looked into this recently and found royal purple to be better than the toyota stuff. Might be worth a pm to him Steve.

edge
I use a redline oil thats been good to me. Its a redline oil that everyone says done a few boxes (this was the high shock - good if you want to sell a car with a duff box) but this is high grade dextron 6. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=146011&highlight=redline Ran it for about 1600 miles and no leaksas i put new seals in so box got a good clean so i can check. Changes gear fine. I was going to put some royal purple in just to try and see if its any better. I found some old posts on a US forum and they said they getrag had a use ATF sticker on the box, if this is true i dont know but the V160 is just atf like the bmw boxes use. RobSheffield
Paul Whiffin was doing V160 fluid Steve....
Scooter
Paul Whiffin was doing V160 fluid Steve.... and it doesn't work out so bad money wise when you consider the £'s of oil you'll put through the engine during the V160's 30K mile interval. 6 speeds are costly new or secondhand whilst i agree its very expensive, its probably best to given in on this one. There are a few threads where people have put in new V160 into their gearbox (previous fluid unknown) and reported improved smoothness and better feel almost instantly.......... SteveR
I think if the BMW stuff (same oil according the CW) is cheaper I'll get that. If not, the V160 if it's not crazy money, and after that... hmm. Thanks for the link Ash, I am going to read through that but not just yet - am just changing my pads!
