Condensation in Headlights

Justin

Recommended Posts

A couple on months ago I did the "cook your headlight in the oven trick" to free off the headlight lenses. It worked a treat and polished up nicely. But I am getting condensation behind my lenses in certain weather conditions. I reckon it is because the black chewing gum stuff is not sealing all the way round. When the water drys it is building up stains and making the lenses look misty again.

A. Is anyone else getting this?

B. Can I get hold of this black chewing gum stuff from anywhere?

C. What should I do to reseal the lenses if I can't get this stuff?

D. Could it be the bulb holders letting in moisture?

Cheers

When I did the work on my headlamps the chewing gum was a bit thin in places, so I pushed it about a bit before putting the headlamps back in and never had any problems.

Ibrar was the first person in the UK to cook his headlamps and he actually ran a bead of bathroom sealant type stuff round the edge to ensure it sealed properly.

My UK headlamps have a terrible leak on them so Im going to have to cook those...I just hope I dont mess it up as UK spec headlamps are not cheap.

oooh, that sounds like a cunning plan....

Can I please :D borrow your spare UK spec  headlamp so I can cook it at 150degrees C for 5 minutes

:stupid: and then throw it round the kitchen :flame Dev when I forget to wear my oven gloves, and then jam a large screwdriver in to it to get the lens off :sly: , spray the insides black , stick it all back together and then melt it all over the oven again so my wife has to beat me with a big stick :twak:

thanks
