Getting the most from BPU

Axle

Recommended Posts

I wanna get the most out of my BPU Supra.

So was wondering if tuning up the fueling would be worthwhile. Even if only marginal gains could be made, every little helps.

Would fitting something like the Apexi Neo or Emanage Ultimate be worthwhile?

Which of the two would be best to go with?

On the jspecs BPU tends to have a nasty lean spot when the 2nd turbo begins to spool, this is where an aftermarket ECU can be used to dial it out. There's a very small amount of power to be made at the top end while still on the 440's, but it's the mid range where the power can be gained.

It's not a lot, so it's not so much a power upgrade, more of a safety and driveabilty upgrade. That said, mine was running 1.25 bar on the stock ECU for 35k miles and it never missed a beat. Compression and leakdown results were near perfect before changing to a single.

If you want to make any real power gains then your options are limited without changing the turbo's and injectors.

If you wish to keep it with the stock system choose the ECU that allows the closest resolution along with ignition adjustment. However it's always advisable to choose your mapper before the ECU.

Cheers Homer.

Any you wanna suggest? :D

When you say ECU, would a Emanage do? I was thinking of upgrading the injectors aswel tbh.

To be honest i just want to totally fine tune it as Stock. Dont wanna mess with going single/hybrids etc.

Emanage is a piggyback (signal fudger) and won't do the job quite as well as a PROPERLY mapped AEM or Power FC, or Motech if you have big bucks. LINK is another good option although I hear there are some other interesting units coming out soonish.

Pick your mapper before you pick your ECU ;)

There are plenty of capable ECU's available, the EMU being one of the best options out there for a piggy back.

As mentioned before, you need to find your mapper before finding the ECU. Most mappers have their ECU's they are happy to work with, but this can vary a great deal from person to person. Find a very good mapper in a reasonably local area and let them advise on your ECU choice.

Lets face it, there's little point choosing an ECU when the only mapper is 300 miles away!

Most will recommend a stand alone and to be honest, for me, it worked out the cheaper option.

This says it all in my opinion and is why I would only opt for piggy back electronics on BPU or hybrid cars....why mess up all toyotas hard work

IMO using a piggy back on a BPU car is a good idea, providing you have some decent feedback instruments, ie wideband etc, stock fuelling on a BPU car is far from ideal, mostly way too rich with the obligatory lean spot, however adding larger injectors is a complete waste of time and money.

Hi, i have just had an Apexi neo fitted and tuned, my rwhp increased from 329 to 347.5, i reckon that was a considerable gain for the sake of A$600, i am running stock twins in TTC, FMIC, K&N Panel filter, i also have apexi avcr set at 1.1bar, scd & fcd, 3" turbo back exhaust with hi flow cat and Apexi N1 racing exhaust...not sure if this is any help to you, thought i would share anyway......cheers, by the way the car is a "97 RZ-S VVTi, tiptronic

Yes i will do them now for owners, as done enough on friend cars to feel comfortable with them plus IMHO had to look into them as i feel they are the best for Auto's.

How interesting...*strokes chin thoughtfully*
