meph137
Whats that white bit that looks like loads of LEDs on the back right hand (maybe sometimes left hand?) of police estate cars. Not sure if its a region-specific gizmo, if it is, I'm talking Nottinghamshire. Can;t find any pics, so sorry about that! Its quite small, looks like a big white toilet tube pointing forwards with LEDs in, might be an infra-red camera? Wondering, went past a police car in the opposite direction today, probably doing 35 in a 30, which I doubt would register as much over 30 at all anyway, plus I've wondered this before as well... meph137
Oh, is it infrared, just found out for anyone who is bothered. Found via Here and then Here Looks like its used to capture license plates, not sure what purpose for, its not a speed camera AFAIK though. AndyT
Possibly to tie into dvla. Or facilitate determining whether car is stolen etc.
Havard
It's actually just a white toilet roll tube. It's main purpose is to cause curiosity and distract you into taking your eye off the road and then the cops can do you for "undue care and attention!" H.
