meph137 Posted July 6, 2008 Share Posted July 6, 2008 Hey all, only recently got the supe so I don't know what to expect from the brakes, but having read that Supe's are meant to have really good brakes, I'm wondering if mine are up to scratch, as they don't seem to good to me... The reason I'm coming to see them as a bit bad are: 1 - Last week I've been driving my girlfriends dads Skoda Octavia, and crikey the brakes in that are incredible, slightly too much pressure and you are through the windscreen! Also my past job had me using hire cars, and all of them seemed to have fantastic brakes, new Clio's I remember were one, they were sharp as anything! I know the cars were quite new which obviously helps a lot, but the Octavia is at least 2 years old so its not as if the consumable brake parts are so new that they seem better than they otherwise would be, are am I wrong? 2 - holding the car still when in drive (with the auto box) when at a fast idle, or when the aircon is on, seems to take quite a lot of force, more than I would expect... Maybe I'm being too picky, I'm not sure - just wanted to get peoples thoughts, how responsive should the brakes be? How are they when compared to newer cars? AndyT Posted July 6, 2008 Share Posted July 6, 2008 I'm assuming you have a j spec mate. Brakes are poor in these as standard. Jap cars are restricted to 112 mph so they didn't see the need to put the bigger uk spec brakes on them. Lots of members upgrade to the uk spec items. However in the interim get yourself decent brake fluid, CW or Endless ccx pads, Goodridge brake lines and a master cylinder brace. Either a stand alone unit from Nic or, if you get a Carbing strut brace, it incorporates a brace. Also available from Nic. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The Supra came with 2 options the smaller 2 pot front/1 pot rear and the larger 4 pot front/2 pot rear. The larger brakes are very good and provide far better stopping power. As Andy says also worth investing in a good set of pads, braided lines and decent brake fluid. Assuming my brakes didn't have anything wrong with them, what would your first change be to get them better? Pads, or things like cylinders or lines? cheers! Then i got the jspec ones on my old car and they wernt 2 bad for day to day normal use but not great from fast motorway speeds when you need to slow quickly. With some better pads, fluid, braided lines and a brake cylinder stopper the Jspecs firmed up quite a lot and the feel in the peddle was much better. The uk spec ones are much better. But they are not as sharp as the clio. But because of that they are more controllable. Sure you have to press hard if you want to stop quickly. But its much easier to apply small amount of brakes when you need it. My uk car will sit still at traffic lights with only quite light pressure on the peddle. although sometimes when the air con is on and the revs rise it will creep forward and i have to push a bit more. But i also have grooved disks and upgraded pads and braided lines on my uk car and thats better still. edit - from your pictures they look like uk spec breaks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
