Bobbeh
I found a really good site, I have lost the link, best thing to do is bullet point key skills, achievements, projects worked on etc, keep it simple, clear and consise, no waffle, so basically when whoever picks it up and find exactly what they're looking for and pick you out of the pile
Thorin
some good tips on http://www.alec.co.uk/index.htm
Supragal
well this is the problem, I had a job that I started helping out with when I was 10 that turned into a real job that I stayed with until I was 19 so it's a bit age gap. Man I am rubbish at this!
Bobbeh
http://www.alec.co.uk/cvtips/ Try that, I think that was what I looked at when writing mine.
Supragal
OMG! I though CV and resume was the same thing? functional cv? targeted cv? ahh ahh ahhh! thanks!
Ian R
I would only put down a maximum of 4 jobs as employers can be put off if you have moved between jobs (shows a lack of commitment)
Supragal
sounds good. some deleting to be done for sure. Also just read on that link that you should list job role changes as job changes etc- that'll be fun!!
Whitesupraboy2
long night ahead of you by sounds of it. Mine is nothing special and changed loads as i applied for different jobs. Permament jobs would like to know a little bit about you as person on CV whilst temporary or contract arent as bothered, well so i was told by an agency anyway
Supragal
I'm gonna sleep on it, get cracking on it tomorrow night- too much to take on right now True, permy jobs require personality, contracts require skills
Bobbeh
I found it was useful to write paragraphs on mine to start, then go through trimming it down into the important bits. Squeezed it all on to 2 pages worth. Braindump, and trim
The Hornet
IMO your CV should be taylored for each different type of job your applying for, that way it seems more relavent to the employer as they spend the 30 seconds they do to read it. In my experience, they will just have a quick browse through it and mainly go through it with you when and if you get an interview. Best of luck Rosie. (I spent 3 days researching on resume's & CV's a couple of years back, don't rush it and get lots of opinions from anyone you know who is the same age as the employer) Edit: Oh yeah, and make sure when / if you get an interview you know exactly whats on the CV. As when I've interviewed people, I made sure to ask them questions on it for confirmation that they actually wrote it and not someone else
Guest Rays the roof
Try this one Rosie. Taylor depending on level you are going for. Use as master and emphasis key points for position you are applying for. Ray
Supragal
thanks everyone! I'll have a proper go at this later.
Supragal
Oh god, I wish I'd never started this... Now I've got bits written in 1st person, some statements, some 3rd person. Plus I've had 7 different job roles at my current place and it says to list promotion/role changes individually with dates and it looks a right mess
