Jimbow,

Cheap no-name ones are often more trouble than they're worth. They can be unreliable and cause weird, and hard to trace, electrical problems. The instructions are often crap and the companys usually offer little or no product support.

Just get a Thor one mate.

Mixed opinions, yeah. All the newbies going for the cheap stuff and ignoring the old farts who've 'Been There, Done That' :D Funny how they don't skimp on getting the loudest Blow Off Valves, innit? :p

When I first got my Supra (nearly two years ago) I was like a lot of you guys and tried to do stuff on the cheap. I bought a cheap DSC and it was a pain in the ass. Eventually I gave up and bought a Thor one (Thor were call TRL back then). It ended up costing me quite a lot more than if I'd listened to the guys on here in the first place. 20-20 hindsight and all that. Anyway, do what you like mate. I hope you have good luck with it.

Oh, one other thing; the thor DSC is user-adjustable. This means you can get your speedo reading spot-on accurate rather than having to put up with the speedo being 10% out like everyone elses.

THE WAY to de-limit a Supra is to apply a speed signal "clamper" to the ECU, a 5/8th divided signal to the speedo (for the kph to mph cnversion) and the raw signal to the PAS pump and active spoiler if you have it. Yoi can also choose whether or not to delimt the cruise control.

The THOR unit (to the best of my knowledge) is the only unit that can do all this. Manual cars seem to be able to get away with lesser delimiters that fool the whole car into thinking its going 5/8th as fast as it is really going. Autos need to know the true road speed to get the gear changes right.

I can fully recommend the Thor Racing option. I was there at the weekend to have the combined speed limiter and kph-mph conversation kit fitted. I works perfectly and the speed reading against the GPS calculated actual speed is spot on, even at higher 100+ speeds  . It is the more expensive option, but you only need to buy and fit a 'dud no name' unit (as I had) to realise the benefit in fitting the correct unit by professionals the first time.

Well, my car reads in mph, and the odometer counts in mpg, but my active spoiler doesnt drop at 60mph.....perhaps i need the thor unit :(

it is a manual

odometer counts in mpg eh? :D

Does you spoiler drop at a different speed or does it not work at all?

:D

Spoiler works in manual mode...

Havent taken the car upto 90mph so not sure whether it automatically drops at that speed. Can I confirm that when the spoiler automatically drops, the green light inside the car SHOULD light...?

Most of the cheapy delimiters will end up with the whole car seeing the converted signal, which will make the steering far too light and totally ruin the whole feel of the car. Mine was like this originally, I couldn't understand why the car felt so different to when I test drove it before it was converted. The steering should be reasonably weighty and give a decent amount of feedback. Also the cheapy ones will not actually remove the speed limiter, just move it to 180mph. Which is an speed you can reach...

SimonB - Spot On.

the Steering is TOOOO LIGHT.... and I hate it. My Prelude had a lot of feedback compared to the sup....and thats saying something...

Is this something that anyone can fit, when I say anyone I am talking about a car electrician....or do you need to be a specialist.

Anyone can do it mate. Two 10mm nuts, and four soldered joints.

I did mine and I'd never even used a soldering iron before that. The instructions are very good and you know you've only got to search or ask on here if you're unsure about something.

everyone refering to the cheap one that its not accurate at reading speed, and at high speed steering to light etc etc.

are you guys refering to the one being sold on ebay??

Yeah, and others like it.

Also, "Works on any Supra" my arse, it won't work right on a Tiptronic VVTi. :(

What's the deal with the thor delimiter and the odometer? Will it start counting up in miles as soon as its fitted coz guy in Edinburgh wants £300 to clock my odo back to the equivalent in miles!! Can you miss out wiring it to the odo so it continues to read in kms instead of half and half?

Yes, but only if you want it to.

Yes, just don't connect the DSC wires to the Odometer. That's how mine is but only because the Odo had already been converted to Miles when I get the car.
