cheekymonkey
My brother seems have all the bad luck with engines. Skyline went pop, then the Evo, now his reliable-up-until-now Nissan Navara (4x4 pickup truck) has gone bang. The con rod has gone through the side of the block, and I'm having trouble understanding how this can happen on a supposedly bulletproof diesel engine at 70 on the dual carriageway He's devastated as he just doesn't have any money at the moment and that truck's been the ever present vehicle that just works, up until now! Just feel completely gutted for him really.
Wez
Very odd, has he increased the boost or chucked it in the wrong gear
outatime
Sorry to hear that, was it a D22 or D40 (55 reg on) Navara? It is common for the D22 Navara to go bang at a certain mileage.

outatime
Really, the Navara is a newish model isnt it. I think they started in 2001, a friend of mine is desperately trying to sell his before it dies on him. It had happened to more than a few I know of. cheekymonkey
It's a D22, bone stock engine, we did an oil change about 3k miles ago. Have just found a message board with lots of similar comments on it, so I am guessing it isn't bulletproof after all. It isn't particularly old, and it's a stunning truck so if this writes her off it will be a great shame:(

Wez
That sucks guys, they should be hard as nails, poor show Nissan EDIT: how much would he want for it with a blown lump?
cheekymonkey
Oh dear. http://www.knackerednavara.co.uk ! Will find out from him later how many miles it's done, and whether we'd have any recourse to Nissan (even though we didn't have it from new). I will mention the subject of selling as is. I think the truck would be worth about £7k with a running engine, so I'll see what he says.
absz
We have one at work 05 navara both rear wheel bearings failed at 10,000miles had to be recovered, and then the engine went bang at 20,000miles, drivers window regulator has failed twice(common fault)

cheekymonkey
Just went to see her at the garage. They retrevied a nice souvenir from the big hole in the side of the engine. Not bad considering nothing's been stripped down yet
JamieP
Terrys has one of them and i remember a post a while ago that his went pop when it was out of warranty and nissan still fixed it for him, either that or a 2JZ transplant:)
cheekymonkey
We are going to try and pursue something from Nissan, but I'm not sure if we have any rights (bought the car privately). I checked the mileage just now and it's only done 63k!

Swampy442
Thats really wierd in the modern engined world. Does anyone know what causes it? Surely Nissan will repair it? Lol Gareth. I never got my head round that one....
