chris2o2
Sorry for another insurance rant thread firstly but i'm quite shocked at bell.co.uk Got a qute for the supra online , good as well beat my current insurance comapny directline by a fair bit so i phoned up to set up the direct debit and get it sorted . Friendly chap talked me through the quote again and make sure eveything was right before telling me the price quoted is only if its a one off payment ! So it goes from £797 FC for the year if i pay it in a oner or if i want to spread the payments on the "Ten month bonus accelerator" or something like that its £1208 !!!!!! £800 to £1200 because i cant pay it all at once - f**k off Is it just me or is that ridiculus?? So the hunt continues.....
AndyT
Pretty extreme. Usual top up would be about 90 quid.
Tom S
Extreme, speak to Sky see if they will match it?
michael
That does seem rather a lot and I never really trust those 10 month policies, you sometimes find that other companies don't accept them as being an extra year of NCB so end up renewing with the same lot to take advantage. Sky charge a crazy amount of APR (35.1%) to spread your payments too, as do a lot of companies, so paying slightly more with a 0% company can actually save you money over the year or you could get a 0% credit card, put the insurance on that, and pay that off over the duration of the term. bluecoup
just go get a £800 loan from the bank, pay it over a year, sorted
supra_aero
be VERY careful about paying it off all at once. I have been stung in the past about this. Fine if you envisage keeping the supe the full year. Many insurance companies have a sly clause whereby if you cancel 7 months in you are only entitled to 5-20% of your money back. Yes you read that correctly. They caught me out when I realised how much a rx7 is to run and sold it after 7 months and they didn't want to pay me anymore than £120 of my £1500 policy. Safely Insured
get a 0% credit card, put the insurance on that, and pay that off over the duration of the term. Michael, do you want a job??!! Great advice above. If paying over 12 months we (Sky Insurance) outsource to a licenced credit company who charge roughly 13% interest. If paying over 3/4 months we can sort this out in house and the fees are much less. Regards Ollie Sky Insurance
michael
Michael, do you want a job??!! Absolutely, can I start tomorrow? If paying over 3/4 months we can sort this out in house and the fees are much less. A point on this, when I renewed recently I don't recall any conversations about different terms for spreading payments and can't remember anyone mentioning the higher charges with the external company. I opted to go with a monthly payment because for some reason I thought you didn't charge extra but changed this once I got the paperwork and paid in full. Might be wise to just make sure staff are being clear about this sort of thing to prevent any possible bad feeling when the snotty letter from that company you use arrives packed with threats of charges for late payments and high APR stuff. Yes, good point again, I've raised this with the Schemes Manager (Jae) and he is going to have a word with the renewals department. From our perspective, we make more money from splitting over 3/4 months rather than outsourcing to the credit agency for the full 12 months, therefore it is daft for us not to mention this. keener
Give A-Plan insurance a try too. They have a separate dept. that deals with sports and imports and I got fully comp on my J-Spec '97TT for about £480 if memory serves.
Jamesy W
I got raped last month too, My premium was £956 as a one off payment, cause I wanted to pay it over the 10 months it rocketed to nearly £1400. Still opted to take it out though, as I was getting crazy prices over £3k.
