gsportcars
I am looking for a replacement block for my lexus project. I have a TT block here that needs the head rebuilt and the bottom end checked over. If I can find a replacement block that is in genuinely good condition and going for the right money I would prob prefer to go for that to save me the hassle of the extra work. I am in Belfast, N.Ireland so I would have to arrange for it to be delivered or collected etc so that will add to my costs. Therefore needs to be a good price. I am open to offers if anyone has anything. Gav.

tooquicktostop
Get a brand new block from Toyota (Steve Manley), they are around £1850, best possible starting place for an engine build IMO
SimonB
Get a brand new block from Toyota (Steve Manley), they are around £1850, best possible starting place for an engine build IMO Actually I disagree with that. New blocks have residual stresses that settle down over time and heat cycles, which can cause it to distort slightly over time. A seasoned block is stable - all the distorting is already done. Most engine builders prefer to use old blocks rather than "green" ones. I believe for the BMW F1 turbo engines that developed crazy power they started with a used road car block and then worked from there for that reason. I was quoting Mark at Pheonix to be honest, he always likes to start a Supra build with a new block and also likes to keep stock pistons where possible, but your point is taken, dont have enough info on the subject to strongly disagree , he does have several very successful builds on the road now with this principle however so cant be all bad, he also has just had me go through a very strict run in process
