Air filter question

Hey! I bought my first Supra from the UK a few months ago and it's great i love it (my first one and certainly not my last)

Car is a non turbo 6spd facelift and according to the service record it's time for a air filter change also wanting to add a little grunt to it i was thinking of purchasing a Stock Replacement Air Filter from K&N , the thing is i vaguely remember reading somewhere to use only Toyota OEM filters on N\A's cause others may harm the engine of course this gives me a little bit of a hold back is this thing true?

Thank you

Aftermarket kits or elements have no proven perfomance advantage over OEM, so from a longevity (and cost) point of view there's simply no point going for an aftermarket filter. The stock one does the job perfectly as it is :)
