iain2010
Ive used the search button but i still have a few questions. 1. Is there much weight saving changing the standard door cards to carbon fibre ones? 2. Im removing the all the air con componants. Is there any other mechanical part (Mines an NA) that could be removed? 3. Is there such thing as lightweight speakers? Im not into subs or anything just a front door set. 4. Ive seen some little carbon wing mirrors. Is there much weight to be saved putting these on and removing all the electric mirror gunk? Thanks
JamieP
Have a look here, top left weight reduction, changing mirrors etc is going to have little difference but if you add up all the small changes it may help a tad. http://suprahardtopregistry.com/ Edited June 29, 2008 by JamieP (see edit history)
iain2010
Thanks mate. Theres a lot of good info there! They are saying that changing the bonnet to a carbon fibre one will save weight but that seems to go against everything that people say one here. Luxluc
The aluminium OEM bonnet is not that heavy (approx 25 pounds), but a carbon one will be definately lighter.
colsoop
What is your motivation for weight reduction, sounds to me like there is little point if you are keeping speakers and the like in place though.
miko_supra
i would like to loose some weight in the supra, but i like my active spoiler too much which weighs a ton so it would be pretty pointless doing anything else

Trouble is most aren't just carbon fibre, they are carbon on top of fibreglass and weigh more than the standard bonnet. Varis do a pure CF one I believe. Luxluc
Ok ... you're right ... but a full carbon one (like Top Secret) will however be lighter ... but I agree that most bonnets are not worth changing in weight reduction interest.

I just want to strip the car down as much as possible. The only luxurys will be the stereo and two speakers.
