dangerous brain
What gear box options are there really? I know we have the R154 5 speed and the V160/161 getrag 6 speeds. The 5 speed just won't hold 500 horses (or will it if rebuilt right?) and the getrag is ridiculously expensive for a second hand box. Are there any other options that require a small amount of machining to fit that could be considered for a car delivering 500-600 horses? Be they toyota or non toyota boxes. On a bit of a tangent the lexus IS_F auto box would that fit and be controllable?? Surely with the amount of boxes out there there must be one we can strap on instead of the prohibitively expensive getrag or under achieving 5 speeder. Chris Wilson
Richmond, Tremec, Hollinger, Glebe. Google them all with the addition of transmission or gearbox. Add in the cost of a bespoke bellhousing, gear lever, propshaft and tailshaft mount, and bespoke clutch. Reassess "ridiculously expensive for a secondhand box" Look at race transmissions that are REALLY designed for the torque figures you need, (torque at X RPM is the figure you need, BHP is pretty irrelevant), then 2 new Getrag six speeders will seem the bargain of the year. PJ
I think somebody said £2700 from Mr T in another thread a few days ago. That would be £2700 + VAT from Mr Whiffin not from Mr T.
