motley
This is probably not the right place to put this but........... For the last few months particularly when it's a dry day my car makes a funny noise from the rear on the drivers side when you are accelerating from a standing start. I have taken the car into the garage on various occasions and each time the mechanic can find nothing wrong!!! Any ideas????? It is definitely not my imagination and i think I need to educate my mechanic or find a new one!!!!!!!
MichaelG
Maybe expand a little on "a noise" mate ? Is it a rattle ? a clunk ? a squeal ? a grinding ? Michael
motley
Sorry. Its a grinding noise no clunking or banging involved a definite grinding!!!!
Steve W2
Sorry. Its a grinding noise no clunking or banging involved a definite grinding!!!! Slightly seized brake caliper? Wheel bearing? What speed does it stop? Is there a particular gear it stops in? What does the diff and axle look like (general condition wise)?
MichaelG
Not something daft like ur wheels rubbing on the arches is it ? How low is the car ?
motley
Its not a seized brake had them replaced a while back. The car is in good condition.... not the dif or axle had the car up on a ramp and been underneath it, nothing to see that is unusual. You might describe it as an intermitent highish pitched tweetering / grinding noise under drive... it happens only when accelerating and is at any speed. motley
Ok guys and girls - got the answer to this one I think - the heat shields on the exhaust resonate (the twittering vibration I heard fom the back of the car) at certain rpm, particularly when accelerating .... apparently it is a problem which affects supras, especially when they're 10 years old or so. Many thank to Paul-k on the 350z web site for that one as he's had and identified the same problem. Thanks to all you Supra site guys - hope this diagnosis helps someone at some point ..... cheers all.
Steve W2
He can't of been a very good mechanic to not find a rattle from a heat shield
