Guest Martin F

Gavin L will be along any minute now.

He has these fitted to his UK spec and from sitting with him around Bentwaters, my first impression is that when they spool they felt a lot stronger all the way to gear change. Not so much of a  noticeable transition between turbo no 1 and 2 as on BPU cars running std turbo's.

Not sure if that is very clear.

Unfortunately I don't have any of the technical info on my hybrids and until later in the year they won't have seen a dyno or drag strip. So hard data is a bit lacking.

Power delivery is exactly the same as the stock turbo's only stronger as you would expect. On the occasion that Martin was in the car I was running at 0.85 bar however they are now running at 1.2bar which is quite a increase and pending tuning later in the year into the 1.4 - 1.6 bar range.

My Supra went from stock to hybrids so I never really experienced a BPU Supra to make a good comparison. Stuart H and Eric had a quick blast in it a recently they seemed in impressed they might like to comment.

regards...............

thanks!

Hi..

My Turbo's were done by a guy in the UK called Leon Green. He can do a fit and supply or supply only arrangement, it does required rework of your own turbo's not a straight exchange.

If you look at the details of my car under member 14 (www.mkivsupra.net/members) you will see what was done to the car, bear in mind I have a UK spec car with 550cc injectors.

I understand that the turbo's are rated to 2bar but I am not likely to see that level of boost with the current configuration of my car.

Gav,

Out of interest what would have been the price difference to go for replacement turbo's instead of getting your re-worked?

IE - if you had bought two smallish garrett turbo's which are a comparable size to the hybrids - how much more would that have cost you, do you know if this would have necessitated getting a new exhaust manifold?? Did you do any other research at the time??

Cheers

Yep, I had a BPU Supra, and was definitely impressed with extra performance given by Gavins Hybrids, although that could have something to do with the fact that I was crammed into the back of the car 'cos Stu had to sit in the front 'cos he is too big and lardy for the back :)

If it were me, I would go down the Leon route for upgrading to Hybrids, simply because he really does know what he is doing in this department. If I had of kept the Supra, it would have been my next mod.

@all

here is the anser I got from leon, thanks again for his e-mail adress Gavin.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Turbo's are reconditioned units, on exchange basis and as long as yours

are rebuildable.

I have three stages in Hybrid Turbo, pretty much mild to wild, all steel 360

deg thrusts etc, compressor wheels range from stock sizes to pretty much as

big as you can get.

Most common are the stage 2 and 3.

Customers have described with the stage 2 its like jumping from a Ford

Mondeo straight into a Supra!.

STAGE 1 £1150

STAGE 2 £1350

STAGE 3 £1500

Regards Leon.

I would appreciate it if you could give me leons e-mail also does he have a web page?

Regarding the turbos-I  would have to give him my turbos and he gives me the upgraded ones. Is that right? Also what sort of horsepower gain can we expect?

STAGE-2 its like jumping from a Ford Mondeo straight into a Supra!

Will I feel that much of an improvement with the hybrid over stock turbos running BPU? 19psi?

My hybrids have the same effect at 14psi as my stock ones did at 18psi, making my 18psi nice :-)

They were Leon modded ones (actually Leon doesn't do the turbo conversions as this is a engineering company that specialises in turbo refurbs) but he provides a complete service.

Hi...

Sorry, I didn't do any research on any other sort of turbo set-up. This is straightforward mod and I'm all for an easy life.

cheers

Once again what sort of HP gain is there compared to stock turbos? What does it mean max out the ct12b? Also it would cost me 1300- right for the two turbos and I would need to send my old ones back to him.

Also is it OK if my turbos are blown?

Gavin, I woud need to cange over to 550cc injectors if I run up to 26psi right? Or do I require to go a bit bigger?

Also what happens to the stock fuel map in our computer? I heard it is functional only upto about 19psi?Do we need to get a fuel computer and tune it?

BHP.... Who knows, this question is about your car as well as the   turbo's. I personally have not dynoed my car as yet and as far as I'm aware Pete hasn't either.

Max out ...I would imagine that equates to the largest configuration deemed to be safe by Turbo Technics, probably around a stage III in Leon's books

Old turbo's... yes this is exchange, you would need to send your turbos to them. I would be very suprised if anyone could buy in turbo's, rework them and sell them for a profit at £650.00 each.

Blown turbo's...more than likely, assuming they aren't too far gone. You could probably get away with the "US guaranteed to blow your turbo's to f$%k mod", on the other hand you might not.
