Spark Plug Diagnostic Please

Recommended Posts

Whipped out the spark plugs tonight.

All of them are very black. Nothing else apears out of the ordinary tip wise. I'm told this isnt a huge issue, possible running rich or miss fire?

One thing was very odd. No.6 cyclinder plug (the one closest to interior) was very hard to get out. When it did come there was what looks like calcium build ups around the nut and bits of crap (almost like bits of rock) around the thread. Tip was like the others however so thats a good sign its not to do with the engine internals? See 4th (last pic)

They look like your running pretty rich on idle, common! very much depends on how you have been driving, to get a proper idea you need to pull the plugs after a hard run preferably with no idle, just cut engine, anyway the calcium deposit looks like water build up, ie a leak of where the engine bay has had a soaking and its sat in the plug well, tip always take an airline or a piece of tube and blow out around the plugs before removing them;)

Cheers Tricky.

Yeah i thought it might be water with the calcium. I actually hovered the wells out before i removed the plugs! there was shat in the from Hyper so made sure they were spotless before opening a hole into the cyclinders up :)

Sorry mate talking about Matts :) Although if you have done a search and not found an answer and you want to discuss your problem i would suggest starting a new thread and include as much detail as possible :)

Tonights job ;)

Nice one :) Did you get a support cable/software etc from hyper? Also are you sure its usb? I thought the EMB's were serial and you needed a support cable?

umm, if you look 1/2 way down on this link it does appear to be serial:

COuld have sworn i saw a usb hole when i last looked at it but obviously not.

Do you have the gear to connect the emanage to a computer mate?

The docs coming up on Thursday night, any chance of you popping round the same time?

I think the old ones were serial and the new ones have a usb converter on the board. But you need a greedy support tool which plugs from the usb of the emb to the serial port of the laptop. Unfortunately Matt i don't have one of those buddy not sure in our local area the people that would :search: I think Dek had an emb for sale which he got of Ryan G and he might of had the support tool with it which you could buy/borrow?
