scooby_doo_do
A freind of mine gave his Porsche to a garage to sell, however, in a tragic twist, the chap who was selling the car has died, and the porsche is still in the garage lockup. He's had a phone around, and the creditors who have taken over the garage have told him that they now own his car, and he won't be able to get it back. Now my freind has been to the lockup and taken some pictures through the window so he know's his car is still in there, however he is unable to gain entry. - There are about 7 car's in there in total. Whats the best course of action?

dibbleyuk
I would contact the police or a solicitor, DVLA information will state that he still owns the car. just because its in there lock up does not mean they own it! the cheak of some people. He will get it back just may take some time. Personaly i would break in and collect my car.
tbourner
"Obtaining someones property from them with the intention of permanently depriving them of it" Get the name of the person he spoke to on the phone, take DVLA proof into a police station and ask the guy to be arrested for theft. marc_p
If he already own's it then he can't steal it, so is there anyway of possibly removing it from the lockup without damaging anything.
ellis
I'm assuming that you have the V5 still? If so, you can prove ownership, they can't. Simple case really.

turbonut
did he sell the car to the garage or did they hold it to sell on,then give the money to your friend when its sold? Sorry but you didnt make it clear (or I'm being thick which is quite possible ) If the latter is the case (not me being thick ) then your friend will have the V5C in his possession with his ownership details on, as someone here has already mentioned. I'm sure the legalities will be covered during the period of tying up the deceased garage owners business anyway so ultimately I would imagine he would get it back anyway, but it would'nt hurt to push for an early resolution. good luck to your friend anyway Linda
scooby_doo_do
Well the garage apparently had all the V5 details etc as was holding onto them whilst trying to sell. He's had the car about 5 months. My freind has spoken to the DVLA and requested a new V5 - which he now has in his possesion. His dad's also a lawyer - so he's running with it at the moment. They haven't contacted the police as yet - as they are hopeing to get it resolved without them, and doesn't want to have the police compound them. He is going to contact the police if they don't hear back in a day or so.
