Suprash
Guys, Is anyone else aware of this or any comments appreciated. Just been talking to Chris Wilson, told him I had a HKS induction kit, he said to take it off and fit the stock filter back on as the HKS could be doing too much damage, any views....The main thing I want you guys for is Im getting a boost and EGT gauge fitted, now these will be my first, so I need to know whats the best type of gauge, Chris said that if I want to keep verything the same to go for HKS or Blitz, although I can get a cheaper (mechanical gauges....I think thats right) but they waont have some of the features that HKS or Blits have, so views on gauges would be helpfull. Also mounting them, whats the best postion to have them in, would I be able to get a boost and EGT fitted in a pod down the side piller or will I have to loose air vents and so forth, forget about the top glove box, I have an airbag and would like to try and keep that.......The other half says it makes her feel more safe when Im doing 100+, shows how much she knows....! Adam W
I think it's worth getting gauges with peak hold and warning functions, as the time you need them most (ie full throttle acceleration) you really want to be looking at the road rather than the needles. The HKS (and I think the APexi) gauges also have a replay function where they can show you what was happening as you were accelerating, which is pretty cool! I have the Greddy ones, which have an extra wire for hooking up to a buzzer or light as an external warning.
GavinL
Hi... Have a look at http://www.mkiv.com under techarticles/bpu. There is a test on a lot of filters there which makes for interesting if not distressing reading.

Guest Terry S
SPA gauges are cheaper than Greddy, dual function & have peak hold. Only two problems the are 52mm not 60mm & are digital so more difficult to read.
Nic
If you don't mind spending a few pennies then I would recommend you go for a Greddy Pillar Pod and Defi gauges. I'd also suggest a gauge with a peak hold and warning. Try Paul W at: http://www.whifbitz.co.uk/suprainterior.htm

Try Paul W at: http://www.whifbitz.co.uk/suprainterior.htm Nic, I would fully agree with that - the Defi Guages are the dogs, they have just released some new gear with looks fantastic... Have a look here for the Defi Guages (US site but they are happy to ship to the UK and are rather cheap for the new stuff which can't be had in the UK yet!) http://www.german-autowerks.com/Defi/defimeter.htm Gaz. Nic
I have the new Defi boost and EGT gauges fitted, if you do a search for 'Defi' and go to the top link then you can see a photo I posted a while ago. They are certainly not the cheapest gauges available but they are the coolest I have seen.
Justin
Ashley, I have a digital SPA guage (bout £130). It fits straight into the clock hole which is fine for me as I have a wrist watch and clock on the stereo display. It was quite easy to fit myself and I am no expert by any means. It has peak hold (high score to me) with alarm settings for your max level boost level, or the level of boost that you may wish to be alarmed about. It has a lit display in red or green (changeable) Maybe not as pretty as an indiglo analogue pillar pod thingy but it does the job for me. Cheers:) PS I have my stock air box inplace and it is staying there.
Suprash
All, Thanks for the posts, have helped me alot, I think I will go for the expensive good stuff. Now onto my next worry, I need a stock air box to replace the shite HKS burn the cr*p of everything induction kit, does sound cool though, but I'll get that with dump valves, or is that a bad idea as well. Anyway....anyone now where I can get a stock air box, or is it just easier to go through Toyota, let me know if anyone knows someone that has one for sale. Contact me if anyone knows someone - [email protected]. Cheers again guys...and dont worry you will hear a lot more from me.

Barry
Mr Wilson, a quick question for you. I've always been a believer in stock air boxes and filters too, as all the other cars I've had (all turbo'd) seem to run better with them. If I was to fit a cone filter to the Sup and build a pressurised box around it and a cold air feed to the box, do you think it would be worth it or shall I just make a cold air feed to the stock box with stock filter still in place? I just want to get a nice cold feed of air into the blowers.

Toyota design office have already made a superb cold air feed from a high pressure area, it just plain works fine and unless you are building a mega motor and binning most of the turbo and induction system this works perfectly well. I did measure pressure drop, and even with no cats and HKS cams it was insignificant.
