Scott
Changed over my spark plugs today and the car wouldn't fire up. I didn't have any chance to start looking into the problem as i had to leave for work. There are 2 things i noticed while putting it all back together. Firstly, i had to remove the coil packs in 2's because the screws have had the head chewed so couldn't take them off 1 at a time. I had a nightmare removing the back 2 because of the pipes etc and i had just as much hassle fitting it back in so its possible its not seated right. The next thing i noticed was that i put the middle 2 and buttom 2 in opposite places. Would that make a difference? I assume they are all the same component and can be put anywhere? First thing i will be checking tomorrow is the top set to make sure they are seated right. Anything else i should be checking? Any tests i can do to make sure the plugs, coils etc are ok? Just want to go out tomorrow armed and ready thanks Edited June 20, 2008 by Scott (see edit history)
Tricky-Ricky
More than likely a coil pack connector or two, they are renowned for breaking.
Scott
They actually seemed in ok nick. How can i check if they are fooked? Thanks
Swampy442
Silly I know, but did you put the right plug on the right coil pack?
jevansio
Can't help, but I normally take my CP's out in pairs, it's much quicker You're right they can go back in any order, I usually try to maintin the positions, but I know for a fact I've put mine back in different orders before & never had an issue. You've not done something silly like unplugged something else (like the ignitor, or something) & just forgot about it?
Scott
Silly I know, but did you put the right plug on the right coil pack? I'll check but i'm pretty sure each one can only reach 1 coil pack. I'm positive i didn't unplug anything else deliberately but i might have pulled something out so i'll be sure it check it all
Scott
Ok, took everything apart, gave it a damn good clean and put it all back together taking my time this time. Got the car fired up no problem but now it seems to be hunting a little on idle. The plugs i am using are IK24's. Is this normal for colder grade plugs? I took the car for a run and she seems fine, boosting very well and no backfiring or missing etc. I was wondering if it was just because of the colder grade it was causing a little miss at idle. I have a video of the rev counter if it would help. Its just a little murmur really, but i like to know whats going on with my car and have an explination for things. Swampy442
Have you got an afr readout? Is it a big difference in idle or just a few rpms? Colder grade plugs wont affect the idle mate
Scott
Very very little mate, its like a small shake in the needle. It may just be me being paranoid to be honest. The car is running like a dream lol.
jevansio
I may be totally off the mark here, but I was just talking with my mate about plugs, he was telling me about when he changed plugs on his old Cosworth & it started hunting at idle, apparently some were better than others

mikeyb10supra
You pre gapped them correctly before fitting didn't you?? Edited June 21, 2008 by mikeyb10supra (see edit history)
Steve
You pre gapped them correctly before fitting didn't you?? They are Iridium plugs (IK24), they do not need gapping
