Jake
The one I object to is where you're in a shop or whatever and you're just about to be served or, even worse, are being served when the shop's phone rings and the assistant then ignores you and answers the phone! How rude is that! I've taken the trouble to go there and wait my turn but somebody else can just call them and get served before me because the ignorant shop assistant doesn't have the common manners to serve customers in the right order. Has the above ever happened you, Blackie? How would/did you feel about it?
Franko
well people are trained to do that Your in the shop which means he has your sale, people on the phone can be potential new customers, they are supposed to serve them.

I totally see where you're coming from with that, I wont even answer my phone in a shop but if its a one to one conversation with a mate i expect them to sush for a min

Franko
Well if it is a customer calling enquiring about an item then it is deemed as more important than the person standing there. Its business terms not my terms, personally if it happens to me i just dont bother my arse and buy what i need elsewhere
carl0s
I usually silence the phone while I let them finish what they're saying, and maybe say something myself, then ask if they mind while I take the call.
_Lynz_
I do know what you mean with this, if I'm just chatting to someone and then their phone rings I would say "I'll get going now and let you get that", I wouldn't stand there and keep chatting while their phone just rang and rang. Maybe thats just me
Lbm
Some of my girls that I teach self-defence to (in secondary schools) sometimes take a call, not only during the lesson, but even during a demonstration or explanation. Now I take the phone off them, speak to their boyfriend and tell them that she's busy, cos she's in a lesson, at school. Usually works. keancy
I think it depends on who is calling you. If it is an emergency then of course your not rude, if it is business it is not rude but if you answer just to talk gibberish down the phone to a mate of yours it is down right rude yes. Homer
If anyone answered a phone mid conversation, I'll just walk off, it's exceptionally rude. The one I object to is where you're in a shop or whatever and you're just about to be served or, even worse, are being served when the shop's phone rings and the assistant then ignores you and answers the phone! Has the above ever happened you, Blackie? How would/did you feel about it? Now this absolutely infuriates me! There's this bloke at the local petrol station that’s always picking up his mobile when people are in the middle of paying, or even he just stands there carrying on with a conversation (in some Pakistani language) while people stand around waiting for him to finish... Got a little revenge on the arrogant tw*t yesterday; for once the Shell station was empty, this fella was on his mobile while I was stood right in front of him waiting for him to ask for payment. After waiting at least 2 minutes, he looked like he was about to finish so reached for my mobile. When he hung up and acknowledged my existence I 'took' a call and started chatting away as though he wasn't there. After 30 seconds, he said loudly "Excuse me sir!", so I gave him the glance and 'just a minute' sign. Dragged it on for 3 minutes before getting bored, he was absolutely fuming Childish, yes, but satisfying.

Personally if I was chatting to someone and my phone went off I would say excuse me a second please, see who it is (Could be my kids "the emergency situation"). If it was just a mate I would quickly answer the call and say I will call you back shortly as I am in the middle of something else and hang up. I don't think that would be too rude. snake
Why is it when your talking to someone, No one important, and your phone rings and you get it out your pocket, Why does the person carry on talking? Why cant they pause to let you answer the phone? Is it just me it winds up? I have just started answering my phone now, sod them. sorry!!! if i had known you were talking to no one important i would have phoned you:telephone:
Pete
I don't understand the importance put on mobile phones. Maybe it comes from being of an age where I was used to people not being able to contact me every second of the day. In fact I LIKE not being able to be contacted wherever I am! It's like when it rings if you're driving. Fine...leave it to ring. There's nothing that can't wait 10 mins or so.
juanchan
I'd answer the phone personally. Two reasons really: 1. It's their phone call not mine (which it would be if I had to call them back and I'm tight like that ), and 2. Phone calls are few and far between due to text messages these days, it's nice to actually talk instead. I've changed my mind. I was talking to a mate earlier tonight when her phone rang. She just picked her phone up with me mid sentence and answered it without an "excuse me, gotta just take this" and she didn't even say "can I ring you back?". She just started an in depth conversation, so I simply walked off after a minute or two. I've never noticed how rude it is before though!
