Tricky-Ricky
In relation to my intermittent smoke problem on my single install, i just took off the turbo and had a look, and its looking like there is still a slight leak from the drain flange from the turbo, checked the face, which i thought i had already done, and found it to be a little distorted, so i will sort it with a file and bolt it all back together, but what i want to ask is has anyone with a single experienced this? my theory is that the slight leak allows oil to hang around the exhaust housing flange and on the overrun it gets drawn into the housing and burnt, causing smoke? what do you think? Chris Wilson
I think I'd call that wishful thinking

Swampy442
Im with Chris, maybe a bit hopeful with that one lol. As for the distorted face, shouldnt the gasket be able to cope with that distortion?
Chris Wilson
The most reliable drain flange gaskets are the embossed stainless steel type. The composite type don't like the heat. Is it a decent machined flange or some bit of steel pressing? I can take a photo of the flanges I make if it helps, I never seem to have issues wth these. Tricky-Ricky
Its a billet alloy type, and i think a case of someone had tried the usual tweak it up a bit more to try and cure a leak, so it was slightly banana shaped, but i have sorted it now, the gasket material is some i have similar to the std type, seems to work OK. Chris Wilson
Excellent, glad it's sorted. I make them out of steel, just for that extra bit of flange rigidity. http://gatesgarth.com/turbo_drain/
