cam crank pulley buying advice

It is to test the compression in all the 6 cylinders to see if the thing's *uggered

Yeah that,

and

is T88 Turbo as bad as everyone says it is.

If this is your first, your impression of a supra will not be as most, it is extremely laggy and pretty pointless

If you have a T04 flange, take it off and fire on either a T67dbb or if your looking to only use it on the streets a GT35R

With a Kit like that it has to be a big cruiser so T67dbb is your best bet

I gather you have cams to suit, other wise that T88 will be pretty pointless

If your car is a j-spec their definitely not, even the UK's strangle power in anything but a very small single

T67dbb or GT4088R, for a big cruiser a GT35R will not be as impressive as it runs out of legs around 5500rpm

also do I need an uprated alternator and waterpump

or is stock ok?

Hi again mate

Like I said in my first post you need to slow down a bit and take stock of what you have, there is no right and wrong spec as such but many different things you can do to get your car running again, you will require deep pockets if you start changing too many things right now, can I ask again who is working on the car for you, do they understand single Supras, if not the first thing I would do is get it to a specialist, we can suggest several in London/Essex etc

I am in Purfleet in Essex if you want to come over for a chat and discuss a few options, I am not mechanic but have owned a few singles in my time, I would be more than happy to talk your option through, there are several guys on here who would make some very wise choices with regards to where you should go with the spec etc

This should come out of MKIV Tech I would have thought and go to Chat ?

You should change the timing belt, you do not need to change the pulley's unless your ones are fecked

Stock water pump and alternator are good,

Cams = camshafts?? The spec is up to you but a lot of folk have seen good gains with HKS 264in. 264exh, or for more response, a staggered combo like 256in. 264exh. HKS cams are pretty reliable and still retain the non-interference feature of the 2JZ, again for a big cruiser, you should do well with 264/264's

Do you mean crankshaft - if so no, you do not need to change that - again unless its fubbared,

I'd be doing a compression test and leak down test before I spend anything on the car,

Hi mate, well I got my mate whos a good mechanic, hes not a specialist in turbo cars, Im only getting him to fit parts then I need to find a specialist for fine tunning, I live in London so if you could recommned me where to go that would be great.

Appreciate your offer to meet n chat, I might take u up for that sometime soon if im around in essex :)

yea I think a lot of people have been telling me not to go out n spend stupid money, I might just get it running and give it a good service then take it to a specialist to get the ecu mapped and see what advice he gives me.

appreciate your advice

  • 1 month later...

Last engine I saw with an alternator that had sheared or fallen off the block had been involved in a 90 mph smash into a lampost :( Only way to get that back on is to cast weld it or at least thats what I was told at the time. Thats why I gave that engine gratis to dude who did in fact know someone that could cast weld.
