grahamc
Following on from the fuel shortage thread... And the discussion about fuel hitting £2.50 per litre, what is going to happen to the car market? Personally I sold the supra to get an R34 GTR, however now I a having 2nd thoughts purely based on fuel costs. I doubt I would ever be able to run the thing.... How many people are going to be able to afford to run cars if fuel hits that sort of price? What is going to happen to the car market if fuel hits those sorts of prices? Ewen
I avoided the Black Death, and missed both World Wars. At last theres something coming I can be stiff upper lipped about.
supraGZaerotop
its very scary mate i know, but other countrys dont pay it, so why should we put up with it, somethings going to happen before long i think, i dont know what but sometime has to ,imho
grahamc
why does something have to happen everyone just sits about doing nothing? By the time people get nerve to stand up, it will be too late...
creative
because the government can hold out longer than the average joe. they wanted everyone on public transport... no matter how shoit it is, and they are getting their way by pricing the cars off the road. I see big engine cars being a nightmare to shift and the small runarounds will go up in price. especially on the second hand market.. new cars will probably be sold with fuel rather than free insurance in the future... Franko
tbh tho they cant force us onto public transport, can you imagine how little the government would make if there wasnt people and there cars?
SilverSoop
I hope that the fuel prices dont go to £2.50 a litre as i fear quite a few members (maybe me included) will try to get rid of the Supra.... I really hope that it doesnt come to this because its already bad enough!
JamesG
It didn't really hit me until this weekend just how expensive fuel has become. The last few years, it used to cost me about 20 quid to get from Cambridge to Sheffield (130 miles) in the Supra. Nowadays in the Elise - a much more economical car - it costs me 18 quid. I always quite fancied an R34 GTR. Definitely won't be getting one now as it would bankrupt me! In the Elise this afternoon, I tried to drive as smoothly as possible and managed 42mpg instead of the 36mpg I normally get. I'll be taking it a bit easier on long journeys from now on. If that were to happen, what would happen to all the big manufacturers that are making these big-engined? What happens if the new (and potentially the 2nd hand) car market crashes? With the current financial crunch plus a crash in the complete car market? tbh tho they cant force us onto public transport, can you imagine how little the government would make if there wasnt people and there cars? good point! No more road tax, fuel tax, speeding fines, etc. Must admit, if that happened I would be moving...... I hope that the fuel prices dont go to £2.50 a litre as i fear quite a few members (maybe me included) will try to get rid of the Supra.... I really hope that it doesnt come to this because its already bad enough! Thats the question, basically what happens to all those people with these sorts of cars? Especially when they cannot be sold? Big car companies make a load of money and the public suffer? It didn't really hit me until this weekend just how expensive fuel has become. The R34 is still on my list, but I will keep an ye on everything for a little bit longer. Just amazed at how much the price of petrol has gone up over the last 2 months or so... I may just have to pass this cost onto my company and make them pay me a lot MORE
colsoop
I would be more concerned about the cost of putting food on the plate,If the cost rises to £2.

hoff
There are quite a few garages closed by me. All shell ones too. My local garage has gone up 2p since last night:blink: I filled up there today, there was a sign saying each customer is limitted to £20. As I new the owner I was allowed to put more in but he said he had no choice to limit the amount for each person as people were coming in filling up to 10 cans full:blink: Panic buying does annoy the hell out of me. It causes a greater shortage and an increase in price:rolleyes: I honestly cant see the prices rising to the pridected prices *gets on knees and prays* it cant can it:(
