garethr
I passed a 4x4 and trailer on the M4 this morning. Nothing unusual in that, except for the silver Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe on the trailer. What's that worth these days, 300K? If that was me I think I'd be travelling at about 3 in the morning when the roads are as empty as possible.... and I'd still be cr**ping myself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:1955_Mercedes-Benz_300SL_Gullwing_Coupe_34.jpg
Pete
I love those. A bit camp...but a wonderful classic. IanR would love one.

Chris Wilson
The guy who bought my Renault 5 Turbo 2 was its original owner, and is the Far eastern buyer for Coys of Kensington. He had a gullwing and a 300 Coupe, and had brokered Coys' sale of at least 3 others. They were a seminal moment in car history, and a sign of what countries other than the UK could make in the line of high end, high tech sports cars. Apparently they are still quite usable on todays roads and belie their age well. He used his quite regularly, by all accounts. Hopefully he didn't drive them like he did my Renault when he was test driving it!
supra_aero
most impressive car I've seen on a trailer was a porsche 959. don't see many of those around.
supra_aero
just looked up the 959 on wikipedia - to think a car built in 1987 had performance figures like that. 0-60: 3.6 s 0-100: 8.3 s 0-125: 12.7 s 0-140: 19.0 s 0-1/4 mile (~400 m): 11.8 s @ 119 mph (192 km/h) (standing) Top Speed: + 197 mph (317 km/h) '(km/h)' 0-100: 3.7 s 0-160: 8.3 s 0-200: 12.7 s 0-1000 meters: 21.6 s (standing) WOW. Pity Porsche in my opinion have stuck with the super boring 911 shape since (ok there is boxter/cayenne or whatever but they just dont do it for me). wallace9
yeah, the 959 was the fastest production car in the world when it was launched.
RedM
There was one in the service dept. of Porsche Leeds a few months back. I used to love these. Posters, models, the lot. Awesome cars but I think they look very dated now.

Ewen
I overtook a transporter carrying a few classic Lotuses a couple of weeks back (A31, Wimborne bypass toward Poole). An Elan, Elite, Esprit and Europa, plus an old BSA motorbike.
Pete
I overtook a transporter with an old battered Ford Capri on the other day. Does that count?
