chris2o2
I've been doing a bit of searching and questioning some members on this MINES ecu thats fitted to my j-spec auto TT . As some of you may know the MINES ecu was quite a popular mod to the j spec tt's it seems , the MINES ecu will remove the speed limit and the fuel cut - im also under the impression they are mapped to around 1.1bar . My car is semi-bpu stage , i was in the process of trying to buy a FCD when i realised the ecu shouldnt need one and then realised my car only boosts to 0.7bar . MINES ecu ,Apexi SAFCII , 2nd cat removed , wallbro fuel pump , Apexi boost gauge , ik22 plugs , blitz nur spec and RLTC - is the spec of my car at the moment , i have no boost controller either yet . Surely the car should be making more than 0.7bar boost ? What reasons could they're be for it sticking at 0.7? Does the SAFCII have anything to do with it ? I dont have a clue what that does anyway , it looks good and has a lot of number on the screen ! No piss taking if i've missed something silly here , im still quite new to these turbo engines . Thanks in advance.
jamesmark
The first cat is stopping you boosting, it's that simple. The 1st cat is the most restrictive and you see either no gain or a 0.1 gain removing only the 2nd. If you car has J-Spec turbos all you need to do is buy a 1st decat and a restrictor ring, a restrictor ring is needed on J-Spec turbos as they will overboost and then go pop. I personally would go this route, 1st decat installed with a 1 bar restrictor ring (limits boost to 1 bar) also install a boost controller to then raise the boost to 1.1 bar or 1.2 bar. If you cannot afford to get a boost controller you can just go for either a 1.1bar or 1.2 bar restrictor ring but then you have no control on boost up to that level, using a 1 bar RR and BC at least gives you some control over boost. Scott
Can't be the first CAT. I had the first one in place for months before getting shot of it. I was making 1-1.1 bar.
jamesmark
Can't be the first CAT. I had the first one in place for months before getting shot of it. I was making 1-1.1 bar. Were you raising the boost with a boost controller? As I have read a few people have kept first cat in place and raised the boost which is not really advisable. On my J-Spec TT I was the same, 2nd decat with cat back exhaust and 1st cat still in place and I saw no gains what so ever.
Scott
No, Mines ECU raises the boost via some electronic method that tDR explained to me lol.
chris2o2
Yeah i'll go boost controller ,restrictor ring and de-cat i think just to be one safe side , the cars quick enough really already ! but a tad more power would be nice .... just incase. It was after speaking to Scotster via pm i though that mine would have been the same if the ecus mapped to 1.1bar . Thanks for the help anyway gents . TurboBrett
On my J-Spec TT I was the same, 2nd decat with cat back exhaust and 1st cat still in place and I saw no gains what so ever. i hit fuel cut tonight for the first time, scary a phook mine is a j-spec, 3" hks second decat and full 3" cat back system no boost controller boost gauge read just under 1 bar, i was watching it as it went further than usual, it hit 13.5psi in the heat earlier in the week, so i reckon (atleast for my supe) its about right but its that every supra is different i suppose anyway doesnt the Apexi SAFCII play about with fuel? so there is nothing to increase the boost over the usual i have read the mines ecu increases the boost created however i have no experience with this unit so i cant comment if every thing else works as it should id just decat, rr and a controller;)
