Justin
I've got Yoko's on now but need new tyres. I'm told they will take 3 weeks to come in. Can anyone recommend a good make that works well with the Supe (but doesn't cost an arm and a leg). Or can anyone tell me what not to buy so that I can avoid them. Cheers
lust2luv
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s, approx 100 quid a corner on 17s.

Terminator
SO-3's good tyre. Check out Cole and Day in Somersham, they will do you a good price on most makes.
Alex
Dunlop SP9000's squeal like buggery ( ) which just adds to grin factor They grip well and seem to last.
Flipfinger
I like the SP9000s too......as Al says, squealy!
Syed Shah
S0-2s or S0-3s are very good tires.
rayg
So.3's are the new pattern.....great tyre, but my tyre dealer told me they use the same compound as the so.2's old pattern......if you want to save a few quid, there are some great deals about as they off load the so.2's.....get bartering, the so.3 pattern has only just come out so until then you would have gone for the so.2 anyway. Unless money is no objective. I have yoko AVS on front and are recording the milage I get from both types for future reference. The So.2 on the back have made an amasing difference when accelerating in the rain.....no slip, just pure grip. Love the new faces.:flame Dev
Guest Martin F
SO3's have been out for over a year.
Thorin
They had a big tyre review in Evo magazine a couple of months ago. The Bridgestone SO-3's kicked ass in the dry in all tests, with the Goodyear Eagle F1's mid table or higher. In the wet however, the SO-3's were dead last in almost all tests with the F1's were top. All drivers said the SO-3's didn't have a very good 'feel' to them compared to the other tires. Overall the tyres were rated in the following order (1st to last)... Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 Contisport Contact Toyo Proxes T1-S Pirelli P7000 Michelin Pilot Sport Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Bridgestone Potenza SO3 Avon ZZ3 Oh and it was a Focus ST170 that they used for the test and not a RWD monster but gives a fair idea. Got SO3's on at the moment and was supprised at how badly they scored in the wet tests as I don't think they are that bad. I'll be getting some F1's when I next need some tyres though... Thorin
Oh and it says they couldn't test the Yokohama's as they couldn't get the right size tyres in time. Dunno how good they are as a tyre.
Alex
The Yoko's are pants.... I had some 27/35/ZR18's and they ddn't last long or give as much confidence as the SP9000's
Bobbeh
Dont forget the nice tread pattern on the Eagles!
Thorin
One thing I noticed at Billing was that loads of people seemed to be running Pirelli 7000's.
Suprash
Intersting read on tyres, I have a Supra with So 2's on the front and so 3's on the back, wouldn't say I know as much as you guys, have only just bought the car, but hey, it frigging flies when you put your foot down and I can never stop grinning, like today with the BMW M3.....hey, hey...:flame Dev
Gordon F
Originally posted by Alex Holdroyd The Yoko's are pants.... Naaaaaah! - Have to disagree. The Yoko AVS Sport is one of the best tyres out there. Life expectancy isn't too great (5k out of the last set of rears) but grip levels are excellent, wet and dry. They're also standard equipment on the latest Aston Martin Vanquish V12.......like to think THEY would have done their homework on which tyres to put their car on
Andrew Dunk Shaw
Hi Justin, Goodyear Eagle F1's IMHO are the best all round tyre you can get. Regards Andrew(dunk)Shaw Black uk mk4 tt + HKS goodies

Need4Speed
This all depends on what size your rims are. Some sizes are difficult to find in certain makes. I ended up with S01 rear and S03 front - I'm quite happy with both traction and turn in. It does also depend on your suspension set up. 35 series tyres are a bit of a waste with soft suspension. Justin
Thanks for all your opinions guys it was a great help. I've ordered a pair of Goodyear F1's £119 each. Hope they're good
garethrees
I just found this on the MR2 web site.. http://www.imoc.co.uk/tyres/tyres.asp?MenuID=16 might be of interest...
Terminator
Try this one - a US site but a huge data base gives miles by tire the in survey some in the millions. Good for tire comparisons. http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp
GavinL
I have a set of F1's for the winter/track days and a set of SO2's for the summer. Both are very good tyres.

Mines on stock suspension with 35 series profile tyres on 18" rims and the car is definetly better, at least youve cut down the tyre roll when cornering, i agree though acompanied with a stiffer suspension set up even better. I think you should use the same tyre front and back though or youll have differant grip levels that might catch you out, mainly in the wet. Need4Speed
Thorin I'm surprised that a test of tyres on a FWD Focus is even considered worth mentioning in connection with what works on a Supra. It's irrelevant - the dynamics of the two cars are worlds apart. If you're looking for Supra tyre performance, the people on this BBS should know enough to help you decide what's worth buying. Incidentally my local tyre dealer (I've been buyng from him for 13 years) got me Bridgestones in 3 days.
