b.weeks
Hi all, I know this is a rather subjective question, but what are people's "opinion's" (if you can back that up then great) of the maximum power that is _reasonable_ to push out of a stock engine (see garage for other supporting mods)? I'm currently running 599.5 bhp on stock internals and would consider that to be around about the limit for stock. However, now considering race fuel to get another 50 - 100 bhp - am I just asking for trouble? Background: Will be doing a rebuild at some point, but would like the engine to last this year / season otherwise 'er indoors won't be getting her kitchen and I'll get linched ;-) Cheers, Ben. Paul Whiffin
I ran my stock engine at 1.9 bar race fuel with no problems, you worry to much!

Jurgen-Jm-Imports
a good stock engine can take 700bhp for a long time..
b.weeks
Looks like we're going to find out anyway (EDIT: Looks like we'll find out how "good" the engine really is) Edited June 10, 2008 by b.weeks (see edit history)

Luxluc
Seeing (in the magazines) what some guys are running on stock engines (specially the yanks) ... I wouldn't bother if I were you... just keep on runnig Ben
NeoMagic
Yanks get silly power, 800bhp upwards there obviously is a limit but I think the funds run dry before you'd get there. Unless you don’t take care of it id imagine. Edited June 10, 2008 by NeoMagic (see edit history)
Wez
Seeing (in the magazines) what some guys are running on stock engines (specially the yanks) ... I wouldn't bother if I were you... just keep on runnig Ben Magazine power figures are normally inflated, for instance 500hp BPU supras, makes the mag more interesting The general consensus on max power is 600 to 650, yes cars have run much more than that on dynos but could they take the constant abuse a time attack car would get
Luxluc
Agree on that ... but I think your car is in good hands Ben
rob wild
I also think it comes down how well the engine has been looked after. I must say I've always treated mind with respect doing very regular oil changes, warming the car up before bring it on boost etc etc and it really shows as recently i did a leak down and compression test and the result were amazing in the high 180's for the comp test and each cylinder was only couple of psi apart. This is also after 5 years of running BPU and single include santa pod's and 1000's of miles.

Chingy
I was also wondering this, currently 1.6bar 607Bhp on stock

Lee P
The rod bots become a problem at 750bhp so stay bellow that and you should be ok providing you look after it, egts, oil temps, oil changes ect... I would keep below 700bhp which is plenty of power and enough to pull your guts through your spine.
