Sharpie
I recently found a small leak around the rad cap area and thought it was my rad cap that was starting to break down with age since, it's been on the car for the duration that I have had it (6+yrs) and I don't know when it was last changed so, I have to assume it's the original one that came with the car. Anyway, I bought a new one from my local dealer and while some 200+ miles away from home, it failed on me. Not during the trip but, overnight in the hotel car park. Luckily, I had the old rad cap with me and 5ltrs of coolant & a funnel so, was OK. Here are some pic's, is this the normal part that fails on the cap ? Sharpie
Oh, Toyota are replacing it for me and it was not the cause of the initial leak, it was the overflow hose being too big at one end.

Chris Wilson
Yes, I try and change any that look like they are old, and I tend to use none genuine ones as they don't fail like that. Common problem nowadays.
Pabs
So Toyota OEM rad caps are 1.1bar??? I thought they were 0.9bar?

Chris Wilson
The early caps seem to have a steel pin that corrodes and the thing eventually falls apart, especially if the anti freeze mix gets weak. The later ones appear to have a plastic pin, that does not corrode. To play safe, having bought new ones from Toyota that still have the steel pin, I now use other makes, as available from my suppliers at the time.
