far
Hi All I've got an outdoor light which I have managed wire up correctly as it works, it has a blue wire and brown wire and off the mains feed it seem to work - two core (no earth) I have now tried to put a switch on it (attached is the leaflet that came with the switch) I've put the brown wire to the live feed and blue wire to the 'switched live' but it doesnt do anything (the switched live side is where the rocker switch is) Any ideas? Jake
Don't you have to be a qualified electrician to carry out this sort of work?

merckx
The diagram that came with the light switch is hopeless, is the terminal at the bottom labled? This is how a normal mains switch is wired. The twin and earth cable would go through the switch back box. Where are you connecting it to the mains, you could've just fitted a 13 amp plug to the cable and switch it at the mains socket? Shadow Beast
ok here you go this is how to do it if you have all the bits! What cable are you using? really you should be using 1.5mm twin and earth get it from B & Q. take the feed from where ever you are using, if it a socket then you need to put in a spur to down rate it it to 5 amp, this needs to be feed in 2.5mm twin and earth. if it from the lighting circuit then its ok. so......... take your 1.5mm cable which has brown (Live) and blue (neutral) to the switch position, the live goes to the top terminal marked (Com) the neutral has a bit of choc bar added to it, Then using another length of 1.5mm take this up to the light fitting, at the light fitting connect the live to the terminal marked (L) the blue to the terminal marked (N) and earth to the earth terminal. Go back to the switch position and connect the cable as follows, brown (L) to the other terminal position, which is at the bottom of the switch maybe marked L1/L2 and connect the (N) to the other neutral in there (one with choc block on). Remember to earth the the back box if its metal! sleeve the bare earth wire as well. hope this helps you today!! richie
